Reilly Brodie 24 minutes
Giordano Liljegren 22 minutes
Muzzin Lybushkin 16 minutes

Obviously PK and PP will dictate the minutes

The acquisition of Giordano has made me far less concerned about pairings (I was previously quite adamant about the return of the Rielly-Brodie pairing ASAP). Rielly and Giordano are the locks on the left side to receive big minutes and Brodie is their equivalent to that on the right. Muzzin's injury concerns might lessen his ability to log the ice time of the aforementioned trio. Sandin will hopefully be able to come back effectively from his own injury and help out there. The right side seems a bit less certain after Brodie. I figure that we'll see Liljegren spell Holl for ice time and Lyubushkin may or may not play in every game. I imagine all 8 D will find themselves with an opportunity at some point. That will be especially so if the team can go on any kind of a run.

Muzzin is the best leafs D defensive side when hes healthy and i dont talk about muzzin who was certainly not healthy when he came back from his first injury.

And yes now liljegren looked good by playing 14 minutes in a limited role on a third pairing vs holl playing 20 minutes in thentop pair against top opposing line and get a big role on pk. So i dont know how you can keep liljegren over holl.

Yes liljegren is younger, better skater, biggest offensive upside but at the end the player who still giving leafs best chance to win still holl

So for me look like

Giordano-brodie
Muzzin-holl
Rielly-lyubushkin

I am as big of a fan of Rasmus and especially Lilly all season, but if everyone is healthy and playing at their potential or even just not being a liability it’s gotta be the kids watching game 83 from the press box and I think the partners look like:
Rielly-boosh
Gio-Brodie
Muzz-Holl
Sandin-Lilly
If they’re going to go on a run or even have a deep series I’m sure you’ll need all 8 st some point, but that top6 is a man’s top 6 that’s primed for a run.

I love having this much depth :D

Rielly - Lyubushkin
Giordano - Brodie
Muzzin - Sandin/Holl/Liljegren

What are the chances we run 7D in the playoffs ?

When is Sandin due back and what is wrong with him? Stats wise he's been our best Dman.
Anyone with a timeline for Muzzin?

Thx

Only thing I KNOW for sure is we need Brodie/Reilly together. Brodie is the only one close to being smart enough and patient enough to cover Reilly's defensive deficiencies. Otherwise this seems to be the best D we've had in a while.

I voted, but really this is the experiment Keefe will conduct over the last 20 games. Leafs need a healthy Muzzin, so I am praying for that and I voted with assumption he will be in. The formation isn't as important as the players.

In my world, the two young D sit come playoffs though either are competent replacements on the bottom pair. Long term they both appear to have "career NHLer" trajectory.

It takes reasonable experience to play D in the playoffs when on a legitimate Cup contender.

Rielly / bear
Geo Brodie
Muzzin / Holl

Geo and brodie played together for years I know they are older now but , they were solid in Calgary.
Rielly needs to get back to his offensive game , Bear is a stay at home D that can cover for him .
Muzzin / Holl will be a good shut down line IMO

Not sure it was an option... but I'd do:

Rielly-Lyubushkin
Muzzin-Brodie
Gio-Liljegren or Holl

the way i see it is that we have 6 dmen with no glaring weaknesses and two guys who are good but have bigger weaknesses - Sandin (size/skating) and Lyubushkin (skating/skill).

If all our guys are on top of their games, I think starting Rielly Brodie Giordano Muzzin Liljegren and Holl give us our most complete dcorps with the fewest weaknesses to exploit.

They'll need to experiment with the pairs down the stretch here. Hopefully Muzzin and Sandin are healthy enough to get some games in.

I originally would've had Holl as the first one relegated, but he's looked much better paired with Brodie. At this point, unless Muzzin comes back and looks dramatically better than he did earlier in the season, I would have him as one to sit.

Then it probably comes down to Boosh vs. Sandin vs. Liljegren. I love Sandin, but he's had some struggles when placed under duress. So I guess I'd run the pairs as currently constructed.

Brodie - Holl
Giordano - Liljegren
Rielly - Lyubushkin

Subject to change.
