Im not a gambling man but boy am I tempted to put money on this team taking the gold...seems unrealistic, what about 2nd or 3rd? thoughts? What a fun job to coach this squad this is how I would lay the lines out if it were my team.

Saad-Mcdavid-RNH
Monahan-Schiefele-Gaudreau
Mackinnon-Eichel-J.T miller
Larkin-Matthews-Drouin

EXTRA: Couts

Ekblad-Jones
Trouba-Ghost
Parayko-Rielly

Extra: R.Murray

Matt Murray

Backup: Gibson

IIHF what? If it's the world chamionships, the full collection of Young Gunz would be favourites in most years to win gold.

They have all the skill in the world to do it. Emotions will likely effect them the most. Start hot and they could go on a roll. Start slow and the opposite could happen.

Easily the most exciting team to watch IMO. Both on levels on interest, rare line combos and high end skill.

There is actually a chance we'll see McDavid, Eichel and Matthews on the ice together (maybe on the PP)

Canada
Russia
Sweden
NA

My guess is they lose the bronze medal game if there was one, but looking at the schedule there isnt.

Really hard not to Love Swedens Roster top to bottom id agree but Im not sure Russia has the personnel to pull off a top 3 finish just IMO

After giving this question about 30 seconds worth of serious consideration, I'd guess their chances of winning a medal are about 33%.

And after another 30 seconds, I'd downgrade their chances to 30%. Bookmaking is hard work. LOL.

Every game will be incredibly important. Once you lose, you are in a very tough position. Even talking about Canada, if we lose the game against the US for example, then the game with Europe will be probably direct elimination game for the semis. And that game is immediately 24 hours afer US-CAN. It will be exciting tournament.

I'm so excitied for the pre-tournament games!

McLellan, Nugent-Hopkins:

The group has started its initial preparation for the tournament.

"It's getting close," McLellan said. "We're a month away from gathering. We've had a lot of phone calls, we've had coaches meetings where we've discussed the style of play. We've talked a little bit about lines and combinations. We'll see where everybody is health-wise heading in there.

OP doesn't have bad lines necessarily

I'd personally have

Saad - McDavid - MacKinnon
Gaudreau - Monahan - Eichel
Miller - Couturier - Scheifele
Matthews - Nugent-Hopkins - Larkin
Drouin

Rielly - Ekblad
Murray - Jones
Trouba - Parayko
Gostisbehere

Murray, Gibson, Hellebuyck

I really want NA23 to beat Team USA or Canada in the final just to see the look on Bettman's face.

That would be priceless.

"As advertised, the World Cup has determined the #1 hockey nation...and it's "North American players born after October 1, 1992."

Just imagine McDavid scoring in OT with assists from Eichel and Matthews to eliminate Team Canada and win the World Cup of Hockey!

It will be up there with the Lemieux from Gretzky goal to win the 1987 Canada Cup.

Elliotte Friedman said months ago that the groups were structured so that the chances of the Young Gunz facing Canada or USA are limited, given the horrible optics of players playing against their own country in a supposedly international tournament. You know it's a stupid idea when even the organizer of the tournament is trying to mitigate the issues through scheduling.

Well if Team Canada and USA win the pool over Team Czech and Euro leftovers and if Team NA places first or 2nd in their pool. There will be a match-up of NA versus Canada or US in the semi-finals.

Team NA looks stronger than Team Russia and Finland on paper, so this could be possible.

The tournament was fixed from the start as the two weakest team appear in the pool with Canada and USA. It is almost like giving them a pass into the next round.

This really doesn't make sense. First of all, Europe could arguably be stronger than Finland, NA, Czechs, and Russia, if they make it work. Second of all, I'm not sure what would you want. Does having Canada-Russia-US-Sweden in one group seem like a better idea to you?

I would have probably put Canada, USA, Europe and Finland in one group and Russian, Sweden, NA and Czech in another group to make it fair.

Not really complaining that Canada has an easier group. Just that it seems they are trying to make it easier for USA and Canada for ratings purposes.

If there was no transparent draw of groups, then it makes perefectly sense. Its designed for US and Canada to avoid to meet each other earlier than in final in playoffs.

They really could have some filthy line-up combinations !! Just so much young talent on one team !! Just makes you drool !!

Watching Mackinnon out there with either McDavid or Eichel would be absolutely crazy ! Hell even seeing him play with Matthews would be incredible ! Can't wait !!!

EDIT : they also have the option of reuniting the 1-2 punch of Drouin-Mack.
