The average NHL team is worth $1.92 billion, according to CNBC’s Official 2024 NHL Valuations, and recent transactions come at revenue multiples that rival deals done in Major League Baseball.

The average NHL team posted EBITDA of $45 million on revenue of $223 million for the 2023-24 season, according to CNBC calculations.

CNBC’s Official NHL Team Valuations 2024: Here’s how the 32 franchises stack up
That's nuts. Balsillie offered like $200M in 2007? It doesn't seem THAT long ago, but I guess 17 years actually is a long time. But for your investment to go up around 7-8X in 17 years is still pretty good, no? :dunno:

I'm reading Haslam paid $880M for 60% stake in the Preds, is that right? I guess that's the basis for the valuation right there, pretty much? :dunno:

The other thing that amazes me... what changed? Like, the NHL never really got that big super mega TV deal Holy Grail or whatever it has eternally been seeking. Maybe somebody could argue that whatever little re-arrangements of broadcasting deck chairs added up to more money. But it wasn't like some sudden deluge of new broadcasting revenue, right? :dunno: It's mostly gates and licensing? And meanwhile the players are earning more and more money all the time in lockstep.

I guess there have been a couple mega-Expansion fees rolling in, and probably a couple more on the horizon, but again, once you divide those out 32 ways, that's still not really HUGE $$$ on a per-franchise basis? :dunno:

Hell, right now they get all the benefits of being the owner, with the city picking up the op ex.
Actually, I stand corrected, and those benefits are included in the valuation.
CNBC’s Official NHL Team Valuations are current enterprise values — equity plus net debt — calculated using revenue multiples and include the economics of the team’s arena, including non-NHL revenue that accrues to the team’s owner. The valuations do not include the value of the stadium real estate itself.

It is good to see the team in the lower tier in terms of debt/value

Absolutely insane when you realize the Ducks sold for something like 85 million around 20 yeas ago and I think the local group paid Liarpold something like 175 million.

No wonder ownership groups aren't batting an eye at a 1 billion dollar expansion fee
