I will be happy to see Parssinen get a chance elsewhere just like Fabbro and Tomasino have. He really needs it. He came out of nowhere to really surprise us in his first year, he definitely earned a full-time role with how well he played. But then cue the Brunette derailment.
There is really no excuse for how shabbily the Preds have treated Parssinen the last two seasons. He should be an everyday player. His ultimate upside is somewhat uncertain. We got very excited in that 1st season thinking he might be the 50-60 pt #2C we've always been looking for. But it's hard to remember that given all that has transpired since while the Preds have sidelined and largely ignored him.
The main issue for him seems to be speed and confidence. He's good at shielding the puck and making plays in traffic, I think he still belongs at center. He seems to struggle more on the wing, which is usually where the Preds have banished him the last couple seasons. His lack of pure speed may seem like a drawback for a center, which I guess is Nashville's main objection to him. But I think it's not so much of a problem that it should really hold him back. He can make up for it with his overall game.
For my money he's a much better player than Tomasino is. But in fine Preds fashion they've done such a great job tanking his value that I'd almost be surprised if he was even claimed on waivers? They aren't going to be able to trade him, probably. Not even for a 4th in 2027. But hopefully teams out there have taken notice of how Fabbro and Tomasino and Tolvanen have performed, and I'm here to tell them not to pass on Parssinen because he's in the same category. No star, but he can play in the league. For a waiver pickup that's still a win.
