Sandström keyed in so far today.

Russia have had ~5 good chances, including 3 where man was in all alone, a 2v1 and a cross-crease.

He has been great for Brynäs over the ~six weeks or so too.

Elias Pettersson has looked amazing. Lias Andersson has been a bit disappointing so far.

Thanks for the stream. I caught the third period. It was interesting, though it had the emotional intensity of the 37th game of cribbage on a July afternoon in a Senior's residence!

It look overall really good, the best player in my mind was probably Asplund. Dahlin look good to, probably one of the better D-men in the game.

Kylington really shined in the 3vs3.

I guess this will be basically the lineup in wjc.

Consistent pattern of awfulness from Russia's U20 team this year. Nothing working. Not feeling positive.

Offense is a disaster and it should be no surprise. Id rather swap out the U18 team forwards for the U20s being used and Im not even sure if thats a joke.

They did not play that badly offensively tbh... Sandström just stood on his head when Russia came at Sweden, especially in the 2nd and early bit of the 3rd:

3v1: Saved
3x man in alone (one partial breakaway, two where Swe Dmen got walked): Saved
Cross-crease one timer: Saved
One timer from slot: Saved

Come on, sweden won the shoot with 41-22 and had plenty of good scoring chances besides the goals. In this game it was a big difference between the teams, however it is just a practice game, I do expect russia do be a lot better in the actually tournament..

All that pre-tournament love for an "improved" defense hardly seems justified. They couldn't skate with the Swedish forwards, couldn't control the puck to clear the defensive zone, and just generally got physically mauled by the bigger and stronger Swedish forwards.

Its too early to sound dire warnings yet, but there was a sense in the Canada-Russia and 4 Nation series' that there was no chemistry, no emotion, just kind of an empty vessel aura about the players on this team. There is no one who seems capable of stepping up and leading this team! If Bragin can't generate some passion and commitment, you could easily see a 4th or 5th place finish.

Oh yeh, Sweden dominated the 1st, and the second half of the 3rd.

But in the 2nd and early third Russia got some really high quality chances to score. Three times in all alone, a 3v1, a shot from the slot, scramble, the cross-crease they actually thought they scored on.

I mean, in the 2nd period it seemed every other chance was high quality for them.

Montén himself said Sandström was the best player in the game.

Samsonov also made some good saves of course, but probably not quite as many high % really (though close, he also had ~6 big chances he saved, but not as many odd-men situations.)

Sweden would have won anyway... but it was the difference between ~4-0 and ~4-2 or so. Russia did create some very good chances despite not actually having a high volume of shots.
