Were the scratches for the game... basically the locks.

No matter who wins. 10 years ago results like this would have been totally impossible - even though this is a friendly game

Really? With those scratches? Russia scratched the core basically.

Well yes. To give you some examples, not even 10 years old:

December 2009: Denmark - France 2-4
February 2010: Norway - Denmark 8-2

OK, maybe the worst games, but the picture is without doubt, that Denmark has improved a lot a the J20-level. The simple explanation is that there has been quite a focus on better physics.

Good job by Denmark. I thought this year we were a contender. Even though the top line is scratched I am beyond concerned...

Denmark has a much deeper team that usual so I'm not that surprised they stayed in this game. Russia without their scratches will be much better, but Denmark has a pretty solid team this year, certainly not a 3 lines get hemmed in all the time, hope the other line scores type of team.

They went to OT last year in the QF too(and almost won in regulation) so maybe Denmark had a lot of confidence they could play with Russia.

Looking at the lineup there, I think you have very good reason to be concerned. Seems like there is less depth and talent at Forward than in recent years. Everybody kind of waits for a Bragin miracle to turn them into a contending team. In his history with the WJC, going back to 2005, he has never finished lower than Silver. I think it will be harder to hold up that standard this year.

Not sure I agree. On paper this team looks fine. It lacks stars at forward, but I see plenty of depth. Many players with KHL experience. As many as ever.

But they are not getting results. I don't know why.
