nearly every game I went to in Prague was a near sell out--only empty seats were usually the high end corp seats and about 50 seats assigned to the photo guys at center ice 10 rows behind the penalty box

Amazing support from the Czechs and Slovaks, just like 2004 and 1985. Although it is somwhat easy for the overall attendance record to fall given how many games are played at the WHC under the current format.

For a record, the highest per-game average attendance for international hockey tournaments....

1) 2010 Olympics, Canada - 16,437
2) 2004 World Cup, six nations - 15,999
3) 1996 World Cup, six nations - 15,184
4) 2012 Juniors, Canada - 14,688
5) 2009 Juniors, Canada - 14,622
6) 1976 Canada Cup, Canada/USA - 13,789
7) 2015 Juniors, Canada - 12,212
8) 1991 Canada Cup, Canada/USA - 11,735
9) 2015 Worlds, Czech Rep - 11,248 (so far)
10) 2011 Juniors, USA - 10,635

That is unbelievable. France-Latvia, over 15,000. Two years ago in Finland, the same game, just a bit over 3,000.

:handclap:

This is strictly a WC record, the O2 arena has a capacity of 17.3k whereas the CEZ Arena is capped off at around 8k, I'm sure it'd be up there if the CEZ Arena wasn't so small.

The average number could decrease. Qfs are not even sold out....more expensive tickets...

Olympics and juniors numbers are amazing. World cups were pretty much elite tourneys without "less" important matches. So numbers are not that surprising. Btw. I thought that WC with highest average attendace was held somewhen in Russia. I presume it was not forgotten in the list and 2015 is just ahead of Moscow tourney for now...

You are wrong, the highest overall and average attendance was set in Minsk last year.

Highest average attendance was set by the USSR in 1979 (11078). This year stands at 11247 so it will probably beat the record average too. 1997 and 1985 also had higher average than 2014.

The crowds have been terrific. Really adds to the atmosphere of the game as a viewer. :handclap:

Just in case Garry Bettman was wondering if the IIHF had a market. #Pyeongchang2018

I know a lot of juniors went to those games from various countries. Great experience for aspiring kids to have.
