Which power play line would you rather have on your team?

(Based on players who entered their prime post or earliest right before the ‘94 lockout)

PP1
Bure - Malkin - Mogilny
Ovechkin - Fedorov

PP2
Sakic - Crosby - McDavid
Lindros - Keith

PP3
Lafontaine - Modano - Kane
Hull - Leetch

PP4
Forsberg - Sedin - Sedin
Sundin - Lidstrom

The one with Joe Sakic is probably the most lethal.

I don't know if there is a playmaker on the Russian unit. Malkin is more of a shooter himself, likes to play the point. And there's no natural d-man. I think they might be in trouble.

If you look at setup men and finishers, then that US unit of Pats Kane & Lafontaine feeding Golden Brett is the best out there. I should have probably picked that one. They also got Brian Leetch. Can I change my vote?

you’re right that the Americans look very good. Player vs player they’re last here but could be competing cause of chemistry and roles, no choice is wrong here.

Maybe, thought Keith could be a better balance choice cause of Lindros being the heavy shooter (and physical player) on the point with Keith as a slightly better playmaker than Pronger.

Aha you changed your post

I'm not sure i entirely like how any of these groups are configured. None of them really have the shot balance and setup i'd probably want to go with.

OP I'm surprised you put Lidstrom above Karlsson for Sweden, in an offensive role I actually think Karlsson helps them. Unfortunately I think they're likely last.

Canada has the best assortment of players - but some of their positions is weird. Very high hockey IQ though, so they can probably work through it. Russia obviously is an absolute powerhouse of talent too. I picked Canada - but it's very close.

I think US would do well on chemistry. Still, I rather pick the better players (Rus or Can) and hope for the best

That was my first thought. Too many shooters and not all are in optimal positions.

It's honestly so hard to tell, from a conventional lineup diagram, what exactly the setup would be for these players. People post Powerplay setups like this all the time, but it's a pretty absolute way of depicting it.

Have to actually represent that diamond somehow.

Like:

Lindros
Crosby-McDavid-Sakic
Keith

That actually kinda makes sense to me. Or even swapping Lindros and Crosby. McDavid is still the weird one. Probably "lesser" players who would be better in that role.

But the same goes for each of these groups, to various extent.

Agree that some of these units are pretty strange and suboptimal, but neither of these lines would be “in trouble”.
