The way the PP dropped from 1st to like 20th should have been a red flag. This team was poised to choke in the playoffs.

Their PP was abysmal the last couple of months and no surprise special teams was a big difference maker in the last couple of games. Whoever is in charge of the PP needs to get canned yesterday. It was the same bullshit game in and game out. Rielly has no point shot, Hyman has hands of stone, sure he's a great net presence but the guy shouldn't be doing wrap arounds on the PP. Jumbo Joe was Jumbo Crap. What a sad excuse of a powerplay

Oh and fire Dubas too while you're at it

Why would they never try putting Marner low by the goal line. He has no shot threat. Put Willy on the flanks with Matthews and there are two good shooting threats. Marner can open people up with passes from down low.

The way they barely experimented as the PP sucked for months is baffling.

It was a huge concern for me. I always said that special teams wins playoff games, this was proven again as Montreal scored on theirs when it mattered most. See game six and seven for details.

Toronto was outcoached as well. Keefe's failure to change line combinations up and determined to keep Thornton on the first powerplay unit shows how little sense he has to change things up when offense is stagnant.

Dubas will get most of the blame, he should get some, but lots of it is bad coaching decisions. Not sure Malhotra is doing his job properly either.

The sputtering power play was the canary in the coal mine of this Leafs season. It was my biggest concern, and it's simply inexcusable that Keefe was unable to adapt for months and that Dubas didn't step on the coaching staff to change.

Assuming we can't get value in a Marner trade this offseason, the entire coaching staff should be gone.

I agree that the PP was the second of the two biggest issues this Leafs core seems to have. The first being the massive stretches early or during the game the team appears to not give a crap.

I believe this is also the second year in a row the PP starts off the year on absolute fire and then vanishes for the remainder of the season. This one is all on the coaches IMO. Matthews, Marner, Tavares, Hyman, Spezza, Reilly, Nylander all at your disposal and you go something like 8 for 85 since January (not sure of the exact number). That is absolutely stunning and unacceptable especially since they never appeared to actually make any changes. A terrible display that require immediate action on the coaching changes front.

Oh, my post wondering why they didn't try Marner near the goal line makes sense now

Clown organization.

Keefe has to be fired based on how the PP was run. He only had about three months to fix it and did nothing, come on.

I couldn't even watch our PP, it was disgusting.

It's obvious that management handed they keys to the castle over to entitled brats who lack experience and the toughness to win a championship.

That's embarrassing for the entire organization.

Honestly I don’t understand how the PP can by this abysmal with all the offensive firepower we have. It’s insane. Something’s gotta give..

Everyone can see that but the pros in charge only idea is to keep the same pp tactics that obivously weren't working. Its like how babcock kept him line the same from the get go and never changed them, how are you going to know the team is playing at their best if u don't try different things.

From Ian Tulloch:
"You never want to see anyone lose their job, but I can’t imagine Malhotra will be back next year considering how poor the power play he was in charge of has looked for long stretches. I still find it mind-boggling that the Leafs’ 5v4 goal differential was zero in the final 29 games of the season with a healthy John Tavares.
Five power-play goals for, five shorthanded goals against."

Your PP needs a QB that is a shot and pass threat to be above average. Leafs don't have it. Dump Rielly and trade one of Marner or Nylander. Too soft on top 2 lines. Should have dumped one of those guys when they BOTH held out. This team's roster construction sucks. And should have been obvious for a while. Other opinions have been tolerated for too long. The evidence is in. 5 straight 1st round exits is not a fluke.

It's like they just asked randos on the street for a PP strategy and picked it

Also we do not have point shot. Why do we not have a point shot? lol

Too many passers and not enough shooters

Matthews and Marner score 2 goals each and this is a short series, PP or not.

Is that too much to ask from 11m players?

Thornton on the powerplay was the issue. Finally when we are losing and have one period left in the series he subs in Nylander for Thornton and the PP had some puck movement and solid chances.
Thornton out there was the dumbest decision of the entire series and I believe it cost us.

This pisses me off more than the game 7 loss if true.

How the f*** do you cry about not wanting to play the PP set up that benefits the team the most?

It’s not even like he has a semi-valid selfish reason like it being a contract year.. What a dick.
