Bottom line of success is that with Dubinsky/Anisimov/Rupp/Boyle
The NYR had the most successful season because they had the size AND skill at center to impose and effectively defend in a swarm with their elite defenders.
B.Skej reminds of Bret Hedican as a speedy #5/6 checker and with him and McIlrath the NYR could have as many as 6 1st round pick blueliners in their top 8(MDZ/Eminger/Staal/McDonagh)
Yet if you look through their system they don't have even 1 power center after JT Miller. If Miller fill out to say 215 lbs which he was last season before cutting weight for speed concerns.
ideally Richards/Stepan are top pivots and Brassard/Miller are 3rd pivots but a solid #2 Power Center is clearly needed. The size and effectiveness of having elite defenders and goalies is undermined by having just average power rating at Center when the avg defender now is at least 210-230 lbs. Defenders are much bigger now and having a few extra big bodied Centers(Kreider was a Center when drafted) would help alleviate the pressure.
Thoughts on who to target be it undrafted FA's or trade targets...i'm out of ideas unless a mega swap for J. Thornton emerges, I don't see a legit top 2 line Power Center being available any time soon. Even Lecavalier could have been a decent fit short term on a 1 yr deal before returning to TB.![Help :help: :help:](/styles/default/xenforo/smilies/help.gif)
