Postseason is here. Lets speculate.

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Jesper Fast going down in the first minute followed by the ensuing unevenness lets you know all you need to know in terms of where the Rangers need the most work - the bottom 6 forwards. Maybe Lemiuex and Gauthier can be fixtures down there, but right now it's a mess. This team needs quite a few guys that are tough to play against down there and I wouldnt be surprised if there's a few 1 year deals handed out to vets.

The defense is coming along. Marc Staal getting off the blueline and being viewed as the shutdown guy will probably be addition by subtraction whenever they get to that point. The Fox-Lindgren pairing was a pleasant surprise.

Sure looks like the Rangers have the goaltending and top-end offensive firepower to make some noise in the future, but a lot of work needs to be done with the plumbing.

I would try to keep Fast. Legit could not care less about any other UFA.

I would move DeAngelo, Georgiev, and Strome. DeAngeo because we're overloaded where he plays. The other two because they're bad. Keep Lemieux.

Fast is one of the larger underrated Rangers in my time watching the team. He's a stabilizing influence on any line he plays on.

I agree with the sentiment here, but wasn’t Fast a fixture in the Top 6 this year?

1) Where exactly is the overload on the right side?
2) Georgiev is "bad"?
3) What is your return profile for DeAngelo?
4) Who is stepping in and let's forget about 70 points, is scoring at least 50 with Panarin? Chytil? We all hope he turns out well, but he has shown exactly zero to believe that he can do that.

If they retain Fast, my guess is Kakko' s play forces Fast down to the bottom six — where he probably should be.

I think the best solution to the defense is time. Not an ideal answer, perhaps, but between guys like Fox, Lindgren, Hajek, Miller, and Lundqvist coupled with Staal and Smith's contracts expiring and the hope is the situation will fix itself.[/QUOTE]

Disappointing end to the season, notwithstanding, his team is night and day from where they were on opening night. There are fewer question marks now. There's still definite upside. And they have the assets that allow them flexibility to make moves to improve the team this offseason.

1) Right around where we have a top pair RHD on our third pair no matter what we do.

2) Yes.

3) Hopefully a LHD so we can stop, for the love of God, playing Marc Staal in NHL games.

4) Did you hear Strome's name called once in the playoffs? Yeah, well he had 2 points. Pretty indicative of how much he actually contributes in that relationship.

Why not keep DeAngelo, a guy that would have had over 60 points if the season played out. Why are people eager to drop him? Is there another dman that I'm missing that will match that kind of offensive game?

Because we're overloaded where he plays and the Rangers are not moving Trouba.

I get that but the answer I keep seeing is let the guy go that contributed over 50 points in a shortened season. A guy that scored big goals, stood up for teammates and is tough. I'd find a way to keep him and make that a priority.

DeAngelo is a good player but I wouldn't consider him an irreplaceable player.

Everybody is replaceable. But these types of offensive dmen don't grow on trees, he's the team's best offensive dman since leetch. It's a step back to drop talent like that. I also like the attitude he brings on the ice. I think Rangers are a better team with him than without him. Need to find a way to get it done.

The way to get it done is move Trouba. Take it up with the Rangers.

The Rangers are committed to Trouba and Fox looks like he'll be a notch below DeAngelo offensively but vastly superior defensively. Very few people want to move DeAngelo to get rid of him. It's just the unfortunate reality that the Rangers have depth at RD and holes just about everywhere else except in goal. DeAngelo is the kind of asset who can help you address those needs via trade, even if it means trading him for an aggregate solution instead of straight across for someone else.

There is no such case. Fox is looking like he will be an excellent player. A top line defense man he is not yet. So why don't we actually let him get there first? That leaves Trouba. So there is one top RD and some hope. And considering that no NYR defenseman has run the PP like DeAngelo in over 20 years and have not touched his points in well over 20 years, why would trading a 24 year old defenseman who was heading towards 60 points be considered to be a good idea?
Based on what? His .913 career save percentage? That is over 77 games, so not exactly a small sample. Looking at this year's goalies, that puts him into some decent company and certainly starter credible.
3) Hopefully a LHD so we can stop, for the love of God, playing Marc Staal in NHL games.
Sure, that I would consider. But what does your trade package look like and with whom? I find that the more you look at possible trade partners and what makes sense where, the field shrinks dramatically.
4) Did you hear Strome's name called once in the playoffs? Yeah, well he had 2 points. Pretty indicative of how much he actually contributes in that relationship.
Panarin and ZBad were basically a complete no-show and you are pointing out Strome as the reason for Panarin's poor play?
DeAngelo is a good player but I wouldn't consider him an irreplaceable player.
How many others were putting up the points that he was this year? How many have done that for this team in the last 25 years? That probably points to who is or isn't easily replaceable.

I heard Strome's name basically the only time I heard Panrin's name — when Panrin scored off a terrific feed from Strome.

The salary cap is a thing that exists. We can't commit all this money to one position.

Over the last two years, he's just behind Laurent Brossoit. Pretty good company.

What am I, the f***ing GM?

Never said Strome is the reason. Nice strawman.

Points are actually the worst way to determine who's replaceable long-term but go on.

To me, if you're going to propose trading someone, you kinda need to have an idea of the actual return and trade partners.

Just my two cents.
"We should probably move DeAngelo because of his position and the cap."

"I WANT TO SEE THE EXACT TRADE!!!!!11!"

I mean, I'm with TB on this one. I would want to know what you'd propose as a trade, too. I think that for a piece like Tony, it's kind of warranted.

Don't really give a shit about crap players.
