I figured since the season has been suspended that we could fast forward to those glorious midsummer threads much ado about nothing. Post your best all-time LA Kings lineup, and feel free to mix up positional accuracy, handedness, name a Captain, add in your favorite obscure player, whatever!

Robitaille - Gretzky - Palffy
Simmer - Dionne - Taylor
Nicholls - Kopitar - Brown
Carter - Richards - Williams

Norstrom - Doughty
Visnovsky - Blake
Muzzin - McSorley

Quick
Potvin

I'd have to say the toughest omissions for me were Vachon, Schneider, and Sandstrom. I know Rogie has his number in the rafters, but I never got to watch him play, whereas some of my best Kings memories had Felix the Cat in the net. I had Schneider in Lubo's spot, but come on, "Vote for Lubo!" As for Sandstrom, I think he could've been a great fit on Kopitar's wing a la Gaborik in the 2014 playoffs, but I couldn't leave off the first ever Kings captain to lift the Cup.

I particularly like the Muzzin - McSorley pairing. They'd be an absolute nightmare to play against between Muzzin lining people up in transition and McSorley murdering forwards down low.

Robitaille - Gretzky - Kurri
Dionne - Simmer - Taylor
Brown - Kopitar - Palffy
Nicholls - Goring - Williams

Extras: Sandstrom, Carter

Call-ups: Carson, Granato, Deadmarsh, Richards, Toffoli, Gaborik, Demitra, Fox, Tocchet,

Norstrom - Blake
Zhitnik - Doughty
McSorley - Visnovsky

Extra: Wells,
Call-ups: Duchesne, Martinez, Mitchell, Murphy, Muzzin

Quick
Vachon

Ontario: Hrudey, Potvin

It's sad given how many of these all time great Kings that Gretzky played with, and we were basically just a avg team while he was here.

Robataille-Kopitar-Palfy
Simmer-Dionne-Taylor
Goring-Gretzky-Nichols
Williams-Carter-Brown

Visnovsky-Doughty
Mitchell-Blake
Martinez-Murphy

Quick
Vachon

Probably missing some obvious ones but I'm giving a nod to the players that accomplished greatness.

I started watching in 88.

Robitaille Gretzky Kurri
Williams Kopitar Palffy
Granato Nicholls Sandstrom
Carter Richards Brown

HM: Gaborik, Demitra, Allison, Deadmarsh,

***Kovy Vinny Iggy

Coffey Blake
Zhitnik McSorley
Nordstrom Doughty
Duchesne

HM: Mitchell, Greene, Visnovsky

Quick, Hrudey

Based on the talent and leadership displayed while playing with the Kings, no matter how short that time happened to be.

Kurri - Gretzky - Nicholls
Robitaille - Dionne - Palffy
Demitra - Kopitar - Brown
Carter - Goring - Williams

Coffey - Blake
Norstrom - Doughty
Zhitnik - McSorely

Quick
Vachon

No doubt about it when it comes to the goaltenders.

A second All-Time squad of players who had a brief stint with the Kings, or were past their prime:

Deadmarsh-Allison-Demitra
Shutt-Roenick-Iginla
Martin-Lecavalier-Straka
Ronning-Broten-Klima
A. Carter, V. Bure

Beck-Coffey
Babych-Turnbull
Bodger-Phaneuf
Tverdovsky

Fuhr-B. Smith

This is great; I want to say The Athletic did an article for every team that had been in the league since the '67 expansion that had this same type of theme. There was a cap to the amount of games the player could have played with that team in order to be eligible.

No denying that logic, but I will ask, who do you think comes out ahead in a 7-game series, the 2012 team or the 2014 version?

On paper 14 is stronger.

Penner, Fraser, Richardson were replaced with Gaborik, Toffoli, and Pearson. Nolan played over Clifford in 12, but Clifford played over Nolan in 14.

Injuries on D were the issue in 14, Regehr and Shultz played as many games as Greene and Mitchell missed, so that's pretty much a wash. So the only difference there is Muzzin vs Scuderi.

Quick, Richards, and Brown were all more effective in 12. Williams and Carter better in 14. Doughty and Kopitar probably about the same.

Robitaille - Gretzky - Palffy
Simmer - Dionne - Taylor
Nicholls - Kopitar - Brown
Carter - Richards - Goring

Norstrom - Doughty
Visnovsky - Blake
McSorely- Mitchell

Quick
Hrudy

Scrathed: Muzzin, Fox (11th all time in points by a king)

Approaching this a bit differently; I'll do (IMHO) best lines & pairings - this is not necessarily in order of impact, and obviously omits some very fine players:

Taylor - Dionne - Simmer
Robataille - Gretzky - Kurri
Deadmarsh - Allison - Palffy
Brown - Kopitar - J. Williams
"Spare:" Murphy - Goring - T. Williams

Blake / Norstrom
Doughty / Scuderi
Murphy / Wells
Spares: Visnovsky, McSorley (not a pairing obviously, but whatever)

Quick
Vachon
(HM: Potvin - really feel his run as a LA King was/is underrated)

I like this approach! The thought of LAPD and our 2012 1st line as our 3rd and 4th line is a nice thought haha!

Fairly easy to pick top line guys, but what about all time 3rd/4th lines? Or all time bottom liners?

I remember Donelly-Millen-Granto having a good amount of success, really fast and effective in that 3rd line slot.

We've had bruisers that could score occasionally. Guys like Stoll and Lewis get a lot of flak around here, but at their peaks they were extremely effective bottom 6'ers. Would be fun to see what people come up with regarding these types of guys who sell out and rarely get the glory.

Kurri was a much better player than Palffy. Not only was he a HOF winger but he could play center and play center well. If you go back and watch Kings game Kurri was the best player on the ice most nights and that was with Luc and Gretzky. He was a complete player, could score, responsible defensively, the ultimate 2 Way player.

Disagree. Kurri played with much better players and never had to carry the team on his back as Palffy did multiple times. Also Kurri didn't play in the dead puck era as much as Palffy.

I'd say Kurri had a much better career, but was not a better player.

Some good lineups posted here.

I would include Juha Widing and Bob Berry as honorable mentions at forward.

Maybe Mark Hardy as an honourable mention on defense.

Nicely done.

Honorable mention. I’m going by players who played 80 games or less with the Kings:

Forwards:
Rob Brown
Don Luce
Ilkka Sinisalo
Dennis Hextall
Dan Quinn
Simon Gagne
Ed Olczyk
Rick Tocchet
Pete Stemkowski

Defense:
Dave Langevin
Dmitri Yushkevich
Doug Crossman
...yes, I’m reaching on the defensemen

Goalie:
Jim Rutherford
Terry Sawchuk

I might do a worst Kings of all time lineup for funzies.

Deadmarsh-Allison-Palffy

Became a Kings fan in 2006 so my line-up will look a lot different.

Charlie Simmer - Marcel Dionne - Dave Taylor
Luc Robitaille - Anze Kopitar - Dustin Brown
Bob Berry - Butch Goring - Mike Murphy

I made a roster of just our currently active draft picks as prompted by a thread on the main board. I figured I'd throw it up here too for another twist!

LA Kings Active Draft Picks
Dominik Kubalik - Anze Kopitar - Dustin Brown
Tanner Pearson - Brayden Schenn - Tyler Toffoli
Adrian Kempe - Gabriel Vilardi - Wayne Simmonds
Kyle Clifford - Brian Boyle - Trevor Lewis
*Austin Wagner

Erik Cernak - Drew Doughty
Colin Miller - Alec Martinez
Mikey Anderson - Matt Roy
*Tobias Bjornfot

Jonathan Quick
Jonathan Bernier

We traded away lots of draft picks during our Cup years, that's for sure. This roster doesn't scream "playoff contender" to me, but it'd be much better than our current roster mainly due to the revamped 2nd line and Cernak solidifying the 2nd pair.
