What distraction? We have like two guys actually good enough to play there. For just about everyone on this team that's gonna be a vacation.

McD, Stepan, Callahan, Nash and Lundqvist will go. Those are important players who could do with upping their games (except McStud).

Stepan will not make the USA team. He pooped the bed holding out not only hurting the rangers but killing his Olympic chances. Hope it was worth it Derek.

Callahan might not be healthy. He hasn't been fully healthy in two years.

Stepan and Nash might go but the US and Canada respectively would be making massive mistakes.

Look at the number of road games in March. They had their chance on this homestand to make up ground and put points in the bank. Didn't happen. Even in January they have a decent amount of home games. People still believe this team will turn it around? Whatever that means.

It means clinch the playoffs on the last day, beat the Capitals in 7, have Nash/McD injured in game 7, get routed by the Pens in 4 games with NYR scoring a combined 3 goals over those 4 games and then have Sather say "I still think we're that one piece away from the cup" and use Nash's/McD's injury as an excuse.

McD, Stepan, Hank, MZA, and Nash are locks. Callahan is if he's healthy. Kreider and Hagelin could be very dangerous on the larger ice surface but I don't expect them to get the chance to play. Hrivik actually has a better chance than those two, since he has more limited competition. If Denmark had made it, Thomas Spelling could have been there.

Will Stepan make the US team? Nash will make the Canadian team on his reputation. Callahan has barely played but he will make it on reputation. Lundqvist and McDonagh are locks. The rest of them will be in Cancun working on their tans. Nice life.

Look at the Rangers post Olympic schedule. They host Chicago in the first game back.

Hey check it out,

This team is playing poorly because it's a horribly constructed mish-mash of tweeners, grinders, floaters, and the occasional offensively gifted player. It is a BAD team, not a distracted one.

Time to accept reality.

Positivity is much needed but - sorry - your reasoning is terrible. There are players who're gonna play in Sochi on almost every NHL team (I'm too lazy to look up if there's actually a team with no Olympians).

The only player that I think will benefit from the Olympics is Hank because I think he needs some confidence.

Best of all case scenarios is the Rangers get knocked off in the 2nd round. I think it's more likely that we don't make the playoffs at all. I also think it's more likely that the Devils--a team that is o-l-d and less talented make the playoffs than us because they play like a t-e-a-m. This season anyway a 41 year old Jaromir Jagr is >>> (than either) Rick Nash or Brad Richards.

Rangers fans here might be better off figuring out who might be available in the 10-12 range of this June's amateur draft. Right now that's around where I think we'll be picking.

The Olympics are likely to be as close to the playoffs as any of our players are going to be unless they're traded. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Personally I'm more than annoyed with the subpar effort shown by some of our guys who might go there. People worrying about whether Nash makes the team. Who the **** cares? It's been like he's trying to stay out of traffic to make sure he's available. His first allegiance like any other player should be to the team that gives him his paycheck. The only Rangers I think who really deserve playing in the Olympics are McDonagh and Zuccarello.

I woudnt be surprised if we wont win a signle home game in March, most road games are very tough as well.

I'm more excited for the Olympics than any pathetic playoff push the Rangers make after that. Olympic hockey will probably end up being the highlight of this mess of a season.

I don't think the Olympics are a distraction at all. In fact, one would think that the players wanting to make their respective teams would be motivated to play better than they have. But something is off with the character of the players on this team and they are content to just float around.

Callahan will probably make his team because he's part of that leadership group, and unfortunately someone more deserving such as Okposo or Saad will be left off the team as a result. If Stepan makes the team, he probably won't be more than a spare forward and may not even start.

I don't like the NHL players participating in the Olympics. Hopefully its the last time. The NHL and the PA want to bring back the World Cup of Hockey. That's a better deal. The games are played in North America. The players and NHL split the money. TSN or Rogers will bid decent bucks for the TV rights. Getting the players to Sochi will be a nightmare. The NHL and the PA were discussing that issue this week. 3 or 4 chartered planes are leaving from NY. 1 or 2 from Toronto. Players will need to travel to make those flights. Long flight to Sochi. Time change. Play games. Security issues for the players. Risk of injury. Close down the league for nearly 3 weeks. The Rangers don't play a game for 20 days. The 7th is their last game and the 27th is the first game back.

Like I said a few days ago, I'm looking forward to reading about Stepan expressing his dismay at not making it.

Hell, the only people I hope make it are McDonagh and Zuke.

The rest of these ****ing morons dug their own graves.

Agree. Liked it much better when the kids played. Those teams were more committed and not thrown together all star teams. The teams were picked over the course of the season after a schedule pitting them against mostly Div 1 college and AHL/IHL teams. That was what 1980 was all about. Winning the gold just doesn't mean nearly as much today as it did then.

The World Cup of Hockey pretty much was the same idea as the World Cup in Soccer. Thats a much better way to go.

This will be funny.

Zuccarello is a lock for Norway, and he will have to play against Nash and maybe other Rangers vs Canada.

And Nash will probably score on Lundqvist :D

I also agree...leave the Olympics to the amateur athletes who are playing for the flag and not paid athletes . I also have a sneaky feeling Nash won't be on Team Canada unless they have a lot of guys that are hurt . He has done nothing to deserve to be there compared to Neal , Kunitz , Seguin and a couple of younger kids . I hope he gets left home since he has dragged his butt all season so far IMO .

this team is missing a muscle the size of a fist that usually sits in the chest cavity slightly to the left.

I think they are out of the PO pictire by a large margin by the time the Olympics start.

I see a top pick headed our way come June.

I like watching a best on best tournament.

Didn't think it was fair that other countries allowed their professionals to play while we threw young and inexperienced kids to the wolves hoping for miracle.

level playing field.

I like it.
