Let's see a bit more. I've seen opinions, that they didn't even play his game there. He was the new guy and maybe did some compromises(with other coaches/staff) he shouldn't have.

Suomi's patient/tactical/counter-attacking game -- although we didn't really see it vs NAT's --- is better suited to Big Ice.

They're a young team, who lost to 3 teams which, top to bottom, have considerably MORE TALENT

While I don't think they had the right game plan vs Young Guns, those Kidz were still something of an unknown at that point...

All things considered...Seems premature to be calling for coach's scalp.

I thought coaching was good.

But I guess people need a head on the platter.

PLEASE!!! TAKE ALPO SUHONEN! I'm begging...he's all yours you can even take his henchman Roger Bader!

Yes, lets fire the coach after three meaningful games in which the players can't score more than one goal.

It's just the usual easy way out. Lets revisit this in a couple of years.

It is hellova alarming sign if you cannot score (I don't count the Filppula one in) a goal in 3 games. Even at powerplay. While being blown out in every game except the one where Sweden guarded their lead for 30 minutes with Tre Kronor's quiet playbook.

Say when Finland had better options for centre available than these following names: Barkov, Koivu, Granlund, Filppula, Lehterä; all ready and healthy. Player like Vatanen has some redeeming qualities but he was night and day from Sotshi. I think this kind of underperformance should easily extend to coaching, team building and whoever thought to go 'young' excluding KHL veterans from selection.

Raimo Summanen and Erkka Westerlund should be of course allowed to add to their list of silver-silver-bronze between 2004-2014 but Marjamäki is the most promising coach in Finnish ice hockey in this decade. He just should keep honest to those values which brought him there and be supported by the best in Finnish ice hockey, not the most well-known.

I think this failure can be traced at least partly which should be the process going forward. If this is just swept under the rug with material woes... I don't think that is in the best interests of Team Finland's future. It might be beneficial for what represented Finnish ice hockey in this tournament to see a more bright future, nevertheless but I would be wary before 2016 is actually the year two in those 'look at this team in 2 or 4 years!' forecasts.

Tortorella.

If they wish to lose:laugh:

No but seriously...don't really know what is good coaching material for Finland.
Can only make my point from old greats.

1: Saku Koivu
2: Teemu Sälanne
3: Teppo Numminen
4: Esa Keskinen
5: Christian Ruutu

As I said...prob not coach material...but don't got much to go on=)

Wtf :help: I think only Teppo Numminen is the only one from those who has meaningful experience, currently the assistant coach and apparently responsible for D play.

If not Marjamäki, one future name could be Karri Kivi. One Finnish league championship with an underdog material, 2014 WJC gold and once fired from KHL (but everyone gets fired in KHL).

Marjamäki has made his name with Kärpät and Blues junior teams, both which were probably the strongest teams in their leagues. Why would you pick a coach that is used to having the best material to coach an underdog team?

Jukka Jalonen is probably the best coach in finnish hockey, and he reached hit accomplishments with weaker teams. Pick the guy who can coach an underdog to win instead of someone who has the best organization and team behind him.

But seriously, Finland looked pretty good occasionally. With a better shooting percentage and luck, no-one would be complaining. It would be very unwise to ditch Marjamäki after this, considering how good the game was already with a really young team.

Ffs. This was an absolutely crazy way to introduce a new coach (I guess it shows that we weren't totally serious about this tournament - hard to imagine that we would have the Olympics as the first challenge to a new, young coach...) I don't envy Marjamäki at all - let's give him proper time to show his mettle.

A coalition of internet coaches at least 50 pseudonyms strong, leading the team through HFboards, with the helpful advice of whichever fanbase would stand to gain from Finland winning.

Let's imagine Marjamäki didn't exist, then my number one choice would be Erkka Westerlund again and if he still had desire to be the NT coach. Next best option for me would be Karri Kivi.

I don't think coaching was the problem. It certainly looked like we just didn't have comparable quality of players to really compete on the same level as our opponents.

We had no problems getting into the offensive zone against sweden or Russia and we did generate enough chances. Just couldn't bury them, and that's not the fault of coaching. Also, our players made way too many poor choices with the puck and were very prone to mistakes at this level of play. Nothing the coaching could do about that either.

What this tournament showed is that we really, really lack in quality players atm when it's best-on-best.

For ****'s sake...

So we lost three times against superior material. So we only scored one goal in these games. Mind you, we had opportunities for more, it's just that our team obviously lacks the skill to finish. And you want to throw our new head coach under the bus for this?

I think he did a good job with the lineup selection and made the right changes to it along the way. Only knack is probably Korpikoski.

You can talk all you want about the style of hockey he wanted Finland to play, but one tournament is not nearly enough to evaluate any coach. The end result is more a reflection of the level of Finnish players than of the coaching staff.

Big ice hockey on small ice. Nothing wrong with the coach.

We just had the wrong coach for this whole tournament. Next small ice event, bring a NA ice experienced coach.

Too early to say anything about his coaching. Let's see the worlds 2017 first. If we come off of those without a medal, then we revisit here.

But if so, Westerlund/Jalonen/Kivi would be my next bets.
