I know this may sound bad/selfish/idealistic, but I'm going to put it out there...
In the Winter season I played on a team that finished in the bottom of our division. Wouldn't be such a big deal if most losses were like 3-2 or even 4-1, but many games were blowout losses (7-2, 7-1, etc). Felt outmached in general, and I think there were maybe three or four players who should have definitely been playing a level below (lack of skill/effort). Spoke with my captain, said there may be 1-3 spots open on the team.
My summer league team is comprised of a few guys from my and another winter league team. We also have 5 or 6 guys who have not played in the same league before and have done pretty well so far.
I know it sounds pretty selfish, and I may be jumping the gun (I'd like to think of it as getting ahead of the game) but would it make sense to possibly start a new team? I would not attempt to take players from the winter team I played with. Also, I know that having a new team could mean the same result as last year (finishing at the bottom).
And I get the bit, it's a rec league... but $400+ to get pounded every week isn't exactly my idea of fun.
Thoughts?
