From Puck Rakers, By Aaron Portzline, October 21, 2014:

The Blue Jackets will be covered by insurance for most of Horton’s salary — $6 million this season — once he misses the club’s 21st game of the season, on Nov. 25. Future seasons would work the same.

Aaron Portzline via Twitter, Today:

#CBJ did not have insurance on Nathan Horton, so they would have had to pay the full amount of his contract for the rest of his term.

Never, ever, ever lecture me about how Aaron Portzline does a great job covering this team. One of the most important stories of the season and he had the facts totally wrong. Could not have been more wrong. Either he didn't check his source or he has bad sources, but this is just amazing to me that you can say a guy is insured with certainty and details in October and then have it come out now that this simply was not the case.

So was Portzline just making **** up or did he get lied to by the team, or something in between?

I'm not all that cranked up by Porty's screw-up. I would, however, really like to know why the contract wasn't insured.

From Porty's twitter.. something to do with the contracts being insured year to year, and he was injured when they signed him, so they couldn't insure it then? Is that how y'all read it?

Lol its Porty. You expected him to get it right?

Isn't he getting an award for his piece on Johnson? Let's fact check that one, too.

"Umm, sorry guys. Jack Johnson isn't bankrupt. His parents actually won Powerball and gave all the money to him. Honest mistake."

Some of you dudes are so insufferable that you need to take a look in the mirror.

As I read this, they chose not to insure the first year because it seemed to be an unnecessary expenditure. Horton's back wonked out during the offseason therefore not allowing the Jackets to insure the contract in year two. To me, it's a calculated risk that has backfired. Everyone seems to want GMJK's head on a platter, but who's to say he's pulling the trigger on that type of decision. Does he or does he not have a boss?

I pay for his content as a subscriber. Next question please.

As somoene who clears his cookies after every 5 articles, I'd still like to know how who lied about the insurance in the fall.

I don't think Porty lied. I think someone from the team either lied to him or was severely misinformed.
