Poor Quality Audio Mix on Oilers Broadcasts

Am I alone or is there commonly a problem with the audio quality? It sounds like the the broadcast team often wander away from their mics. The commentary should be front and centre, loud and clear. It is often drowned out by the crowd / skating / boards. I doubt it's my gear as it's really just Oilers broadcasts that I notice it on. I am on Bell expressvu, Marantz system properly calibrated , using Dolby Digital selected on AV and Sat receivers.

It has been consistently been the dullest sounding broadcast I have come across in all of sports

Heh. Well to be honest, it is often Drew Remendas voice that seems to fade away, but sometimes both.
I really wasn't discounting the speakers, it sounds like a bad mix or maybe they really do not keep their mic at a proper distance ....
Not all the time, maybe 5-10% of the broadcast but I find it irritating as hell.

Wow! JK
Thankfully someone has addressed this so I can respond. The Sportsnet Oiler broadcasts have to be the most consistently bad audio ever that I've experienced.

It has been going on BR (before Remenda!) and has actually gotten slightly better this year IMO.
Watching the game thirty five minutes in then suddenly the volume jumps internally. Once adjusted, the start of a period will be ridiculously low only to have to turn it up, until it jumps 10 F ING octaves on its own again 5 mins later.

I too am on Bell Sat - Harmon Kardon Hifu rec +6pK.
Bulls**t.

I am watching the Sportsnet rebroadcast of NBC's Philly / Washington game. Its just fine. Consistently clear, even mix. Center channel contains most of the commentary, with some fill via front right and front left speakers. Effects, Ice and crowd "noise" is mixed in all 4 speakers for ambiance. Crowd noise is emphasized via the rear speakers.

It seems my gear, Bell's st, and Sportsnet CAN work together and produce a quality sound :)

Maybe more an issue with the local team that Sportsnet has producing the Oilers broadcast?

Does anyone know anything about broadcasting, as in who would be creating the Dolby audio mix for a live Oilers Game? Is there a technical team that travels with the team to produce the Oilers broadcast whenever they aer on SportsNet?

Snet has some of the worst overall production value that I've ever seen for a sports' broadcast. They take too long to switch cameras and miss plays, Quinn mistakes a player for another ten times a game, and the audio isnt great. If I could, I'd always watch the other team's broadcast

Yeah Remenda is especially bad at mumbling/seemingly talking away from whatever mic he is using and sometimes goes into his weird whisper tone and it's really dumb.

Christ I forgot to mention that. Although not an audio problem but do the Oilers or SN mandate that they don't go to two players squaring off, or any brouhaha developing right away or what's the deal?
Absolute garbage.

Yeah, it reminds me of a Junior A broadcast. They miss one-timers in the slot and nice hits all of the time. I feel like NBC surpassed them a long time ago. Also, I don't know quite how to articulate or describe it, but the lens or resolution of the broadcast seems to be low grade, as well. Could somebody smarter than me tell me why that is?

The biggest issue I have with Sportsnet is with the picture contrast. The picture gets darker for a while and then eventually goes back to normal. It isn't just with games but happens frequently whenever I watch their channels. This doesn't happen with any other channels I watch.
