Tickets weren't overly expensive I don't think....but you've got to factor in it's an afternoon game on a work day between two European countries in North America.

Nobody should be socked th crowd is what it is

To be fair, Buffalo is currently in a Blizzard warning with a 75-car pileup on the mainline thruway.

The attendance has been pathetic, but its been a perfect storm of bad pricing, unfavorable Canadian exchange rates, unfocused marketing (outdoor game), NFL conflicts, bad weather and frigid temps.

Buffalo set attendance records the last time around - I really don't think you can pin this on the host City.

Reason for poor attendance:

These ridiculous goal celebrations.

TSN shows the celebration in slow motion (for God's sake!).

Sounds like the weather is terrible, so I can feel a bit of sympathy for this game, but it still looks embarrassing.

I don't get why they still won't bring this tournament to Winnipeg. Start spreading it around to places that haven't had it in a long time, drop ticket prices so they are reasonable for junior hockey, and the tournament will be fine IMO.

From what I hear, I-290 is shut down, I-190 is shut down, and the Thruway has a 75-car pileup taking it out of commission as well. Very bad day even by winter Buffalo weather standards.

Why aren't Canadian games drawing any fans anymore?

A few of the reasons that have been touched upon:

- WJC has been in Toronto 2 of the last 3 years. How many times can you rely on fans in that same area?
- Initial pricing too high, now no one cares enough to buy cheaper on secondary market
- Poor weather
- no star power at all on this Canadian team
- lack of recent success by Canada
- WJC fatigue

The outdoor games drawing 45,000 brings the average up, but this 2018 WJC is a total flop. Buffalo 2018: friends and family edition.

They should put Canada in Victoria next year to pack the 7000 seat building, because I have a feeling it will be like this next year as well.

As a Vancouver resident I know I'm not paying full price to go to any Canada games. I'll be keeping my eye on the secondary market to see if there are any cheap deals to be had. I would have liked to see Victoria to get at least one Canada game. The tournament here was a success in 2006 but that was coming off the best ever Canadian team in 2005 in Grand Forks and momentum was building. There's no way it can do as poorly as this year but there's no guarantee it's a success.

OK. That means we can also say that the olympic hockey final in 2010 was bigger in the United States than it was in Canada. Fair enough.
They may well have had more viewers, I don’t know the numbers. What were they?

Oh and when I was in school 13.4> 12.5

USA vs Russia...huge game... in front of the home crowd....and empty seats everywhere. Yeah..yeah...weather problems , traffic problems...whatever.

The city of Buffalo had blizzard conditions today. A lake effect snow band stuck over the city with 20-40 mph winds.

There was a serious accident that still hasn't been cleared, 6 hours later.

Attendance has been poor, but it isn't just a simple problem like interest.

It is pretty clear people have no idea what is going on here, but that doesn't stop them from having an opinion.

Every game has basically been the same in that attendance has been poor....it would be more newsworthy if they had a good crowd so I don’t think there is any point to continue harping on it.

Honestly, I don’t even know why the attendance issue is even a big deal to people here. At the end of the day I couldn’t care less how many people go to these games...and I certainly don’t blame people for not going given all the factors at play.

At this point the only game I see drawing big is a US/Canada final.

Yea, it's tough to take this tournament seriously when there are 10 people in the stands. USA doesn't give a shit about this Tournament.

The format of the tournament is stupid, you get these amazing teams together and some of the best teams don't even play each other. No Sweden vs Finland or Russia vs Canada this year for instance.

Cut a couple of the bottom tier teams, have everyone play each other at least once and have the gold medal decided by a best of 3. The top teams playing each other is still exciting but these mismatch blowouts have become tiresome.
