Any idea what the prices will be like for Vancouver/Victoria?
Only packages so far, but the Victoria package ranges from $400 to $700 for 14 games (including two Canada pre-tournament games and two QFs)
Vancouver is pricier, from $650 to $2,250 for 19 games, including the two semi finals, bronze and gold medal games.

And I assume that's for one ticket package? Meaning if I were to take my son I can double that $650. I (like most people) don't have $1300 to spend on WJC tickets.

I suspect attendance won't be staggering numbers next year either.

Kind of astounds me organizers haven't clued in that attendance has plummeted since ticket prices skyrocketed yet they continue keeping the prices as is if not raising them.

The true measure of a fool is doing the exact same thing and expecting a different result.

Cheapest in Victoria is roughly $28 per game, Vancouver is roughly $34. Single game tickets will be more on average.

This tourney needs to come back to earth, it's not popular enough to charge more than some NHL teams do for their games

So the tournament charges just slightly more for a ticket then a normal sault greyhounds ticket (23$ for an adult, 19$ student).

And this tournament is a little better hockey then just a regular ohl game.

Well, keep in mind this is for packages. Single-game tickets will be more. I'm a hockey fan, but I'm not shelling out $400 (in Victoria) for a whole package of games that don't include Canada, and half of which will happen (at least partially) during a workday. So I'll be paying more than that minimum price. I'm really curious what the single-game prices will be. Organizers here are already getting questions about attendance issues at the last few tournaments and ticket price is being raised as a key reason for low attendance.

The attendance for this tournament can't be seen as anything other than a disaster. USA Hockey can tout this tournament as their's since it is in Buffalo, but they clearly expect Canadians to show up.

Do they really think anyone wants tickets for 14-19 games? Ya, I realize they want to ensure there is some attendance for the "lesser" games, but those tickets just go unused anyway. They need to be offering single game tickets right from the start.......at reasonable prices. Don't tell me what to watch!!!!!!

Other than the medal round, there is maybe 2 or 3 good games in this tournament. Would never pay the price for the package to see a couple of decent games and a bunch of lopsided ones.

There has probably been a bit of a dulling of enthusiasm or backlash against the tournament in recent years, but I think interest in Canada remains pretty high. As far as I know TSN still pulls big ratings for the thing. I think most of the tournaments recent attendance issues can be chalked up to pricing and how they try to sell tickets in full tournament packages. Even the world's biggest hockey fan isn't going to have the time nor desire to go to the rink to watch 20+ games over a ~10 day period.

I know you can go on a site like stubhub and pick up tickets to any game for pennies on the dollar, but I think there's a lot of truth to "you only get one chance to make a first in impression". People see the prices and packages when first announced and say "screw that, I'll watch from home". We saw the same thing with the World Cup (although that tournament had other credibility issues as well, and didn't exactly draw massive TV numbers either). Organizers announced ticket packages/prices that bordered on delusional, and plenty of people from that point on just zoned the World Cup out, even when thousands of tickets for just about every game, starting at <$10, were available on the secondary market.

I'm not sure Canada's relative lack of recent success has much to do with the attendance issues either. It was probably during Canada's gold medal drought in the late 90s and early aughts that the tournament really took off and morphed from something only watched by hardcore hockey fans, and kids on x-mas break with nothing better to do, into a mainstream event.

Problem is most of the games are not competitive at all.

I had tickets to the entire tournament the last time it was in Vancouver and becaise we had access to the free "VIP Areas" (read free food) we went to almost every game.

Some of the games were just brutal with tickets being scalped for $3 each. There's onpy really about 5-8 good games with a whole bunch of junk in between.

The previous format was perfect and they completely destroyed it. Now the round robin is meaningless. At the same time they started asking insane prices. And more than ever the best U20 players are not there.

I hope it's early but the attendance looks to be very poor today too, even if USA is playing

Through first 18 games = 140 670 which is an average of 7815. Take out the football game and replace that number with a sell out at the key bank center (CANvUSA) the average per game would be 6404.
Average attendance at Key Bank Center is 6806.
Average attendance at Harborcenter is 1901.

Attendance was higher during the week than on the weekend so far, so not really a decent excuse. I'm sure the Bills having a possible playoff game on the road at the time had something to do with the USA/FIN attendance however.

Actually, no. You'd have to spend $950 per seat as the $650 and $750 packages are sold out.

Vancouver is apparently already 70% sold. The ticket map appears to be in line with that number. I think Hockey Canada may be fudging those numbers to try and get people to buy tickets sooner, but then again, the tournament was a huge success in 2006 and after 2010, Team Canada isn't a hard sell in Vancouver.

Try this tournament in London.

We'll sell out any Canada game and most USA games.

A London Kitchener tournament would work great. Though there will be a lot of political fighting over who gets the TC and the GMG

----

As weird as this might sound, this tournament needs another NHL lockout for a Dream Team Year. Or needs to get shifted to a once every 2 years tournament. Or have it became the Olympics Hockey tournament in Olympic years

Can't really blame it on bad teams/games when Sweden-Russia has like 3k people at best.

Unless you're talking about empty seats, no way on the numbers for BLR-SWE and SWE-SUI. It was completely f***ing empty and Harborcenter is ~1800 capacity according to Google. I assume it's the same for all the Harborcenter games.

Those are tickets "sold" and not the actual number of people at the games. Yesterday there was probably 500 for Russia-Sweden and 50 for Slovakia-Denmark. Usa-Finland had a couple thousands at best. It's an epic failure all around. At least when it was empty before like in Boston it was in small arenas...
