This is what I wish happens to the nhl, and the professional sporting bubble who charge stupidity for watching grown men playing sport. How far can you go until society just says, *** this is nothing more then game?

One can dream.

One day it will.

The people will win.

This same society pays people like Kim Kardashion to "like" their product on social media....because sheep will buy what Kim does.

Sports is not he only thing flawed.

Just saw a shot from the bench where the camera caught the endzone. Completely empty. Even for the Canada game. Crazy.

Cheapest pair on StubHub is 138 usd for the Canada game. Likely to drop though. More expensive than a habs game to see a bunch of kids play...

Atleast this is a meaninful game not one of 41 regular season games where guys go through the motions. Brutal hockey market.

Vancouver is a big city by Canadian standards, yet I remember the world juniors being a pretty good success, with strong turnout.

I mean, Vancouver has a bit of a junior appeal with the WHL Giants but if they could make that tournament a big success, I think Montreal and Toronto can do the same, or at least much better than right now in terms of turnout. Again, I'd love to compare the marketing between Vancouver and Montreal/Toronto.

Vancouver and Ottawa sold out every Canada game with a comprable size arena. Montreal just isnt a hockey market, its a habs market.

tbh with these prices I'd be more disappointed if these games were selling out

Hopefully this is a bit of a wakeup for Hockey Canada to make them more reasonable for Vancouver (and then we'll get the #hottakes of how much better a hockey city Vancouver is but whatever)

Looked online for US/Switzerland and the cheapest ticket on Ticketmaster was $40-ish. Sub-$10 USD prices on the secondary market and a couple people walking around discreetly giving out tickets outside the arena. One of the stronger disconnects from public demand I've seen.

All the games in Calgary/Edmonton were these prices and there were no problems with attendance.

Even TSN's James Duthie during the intermission is complaining that the building is not full for tonight's QF game. I guess Montreal has not bought into the hype of the World Junior Hockey Championship like the other cities have in the past.

I'm from Edmonton and went to all Canada games and Canadian medal round games in Calgary last time. I think HC will have to adjust pricing for this tournament the next time around though.

People are really starting to lose interest in this tournament, it is not just a pricing thing. TSN has really shoved this tournament down people's throats, it doesn't have the same 'magic' it did ten years ago. I'm not sure why but a lot of hardcore hockey fans I've talked to feel the same way. It's not just the lack of stars on this team but I just really think its become overkill.

This should not only be a wake up call, but a big FU to Hockey Canada thinking that would go into this lesser known junior hockey market thinking that it would be a windfall for them.

Not the issue, IMO. Hockey Canada really pushed it going back to the same cities so soon.

If one city hosted in 2015, the other in 2017, attendance isn't as much of a deal.

I think part of the magic was the early morning starts. I remember being a little kid on Christmas break watching the games first thing in the morning still in my pajamas.

Something about night games just seems pretty dull.

Those Twitter pics are from beginning of periods...it's not near that bad.

Still don't blame anyone for not paying those prices for junior hockey.

This tourney used to be great until it turned into a cash grab by hockey Canada and TSN.

The WJC should be hosted in Latvia or Belarus where hockey tickets only cost 15€. Most of the games would be almost sold out. If Latvia and Belarus were regularly at the WJC's it would be cool to have Riga and Minsk host together. Plus the atmosphere is really good in Latvia and Belarus, and having Russia, Finland and Sweden nearby means that there will be a lot of fans from those countries.

There are plenty of Canadian locations where they can sell the tickets for cheaper. Hockey Canada is greedy though.
