Though I would hate it if Sweden and Finland wins the next games and one team would advance with only 1 win. Kind of ridiculus.

If Sweden wins all their group games and the other teams on Group B each win one against each other, that's kind on unavoidable.

If Russia wins Finland, then everyone (who count at that point) would have two wins, so it's really not like it's unfair or anything. Spoils go to the ones with better goal difference, which was a known thing from the start.

I'd like to think it was a conscious element brought by the organizer to inventice teams to try score a plenty instead of safe play.
Both have two wins , but the difference is that one (big?) win might be over a team that has nothing at all to play for ... Swedens won over countries that had everything to play for ...

Now Russia can score multiple goals on a team that maybe rest many of their stars and don't go more than 80% and have a much easier path ...

This is not Finlands fault or Russias, but the format ...

In football (Euro etc) they often play the last matches simultaneously to at least make it impossible to play based on previous results ...

On the other hand if Finland does put in a bad effort Sweden might return the favour at another time , some years from now... :sarcasm:

What I like about ice hockey is that we have cup formats, in football in Sweden 50% of the teams has nothing at all to play for when the last and most important matches are played ... which is why the ending of the hockey season is often much more intense and fun compared to the football season

This freaking stupid. Couldn't the round robin just be 4 games instead of 3?

Unless you win all of your games, qualifying is a matter of pure luck.

Updated Scenarios that are simple

Sweden is 1st

If Russia wins tomorrow they're 2nd

If Finland wins tomorrow North America is 2nd

and Europe/Canada game tonight is for 1st place with the loser getting 2nd but we all knew that anyway
