Sure, Falkner's gym is shaped like a dollar sign. But Whitney's is shaped like a Clefairy!

I know it hasn't been too long but any news on that new trading card mobile game? Seems strange to not have a more consistent plan because don't they have a shitty 90s style one on phones? Who is going to be buying stuff on there knowing the new one is coming in 2024?

I'm finding myself with less time to spend on my computer, more time on my phone so I'm starting to pick up Pokemon Go again, Duolingo to practice my French/Spanish, etc... I'm becoming the phone gamer I never thought I would be.

I think I was 8 when the first Pokémon craze happened in the US. Now my daughter is getting into Pokémon. She watches some of the indigo league episodes on Netflix. It’s really cool how much staying power Pokémon has had.

I took my girlfriend to renew her car insurance. The insurance place is right across from a Gamestop. There was, no exaggeration, a line around the block.

I couldnt think of what video game had been released that would cause such a stir. I rolled down the window and asked/shouted ‘what game came out today?’

They looked at me quizzically. I asked ‘what are you lining up for?’

‘Pokemon cards’

Every so often, Im reminded how massive this IP is.

The mobile trading card game released in October is hugely popular and hugely addictive. It's got people hungry for the real thing, so they spend a few bucks on the app, decide it's better to spend their money on actual cards, and there they go.

The newest expansion for the app is coming next week. The resolve for me to remain strictly free to play will be tested.

I grew up from Pokemon but had a resurgence of late. I keep a lot of pokemon plushies nearby on my bed (bidoof, riolu et al) and started watching the original anime in Japanese. I am on season Diamond and Pearl with Dawn / "Hikari"

Pokemon Champions in early, early development. Sounds like Pokemon Stadium with mass online-play. To be available on Switch and mobile.

Legends Z-A I'm still skeptical about. The graphics remind me a lot of Scarlet/Violet. They seem to want to introduce some level of verticality but overall the preview looked pretty empty and desolate for a city. I think the positive is they're leaning into making the combat more "active" with dodging and throwing Pokemon in and out of battle. If they can find some level of action combat they can appeal to a larger group of people because I do believe turn-based combat is viewed as a drawback by most people.

Felt like a slight step in the right direction compared to the mainline games but still nothing special.

Hopefully on the Switch 2 they can figure the whole graphics thing out...

It looks slightly better than the last two games which isn't saying much. I really wish these games would either get a bigger budget or reduce the scope. Or even go back to 2D pixel art.
