HELP HELP HELP
Im with it

I recognize the futility of it, but im on board as long as it's within the realm of possibility

i sure as shit am not gonna agonize over collecting a couple points in the standings, which may or may not affect the final placement in the standings, which may or may not affect our placement in the lottery, which may or may not affect our lottery result, which may or may not affect where we pick, which may or may not result in the organization drafting a less appealing prospect, who may or may not turn out slightly less capable as a pro

No sir. I'm gonna take that dopamine hit from celebrating the W every time. Wins are fun

Hey why not! There’s no rule saying we can’t root for the Tank and also root for the playoffs, it’s completely out of our control anyways. I say let’s enjoy the ride.

Go Habs Go, 1st round against the Leafs we crush them again.. that comes second only to winning the cup.

It took 3 posts to expose a slightly trolly and vitriolic intent behind the thread, but here I go anyway…

Play Guhle on the PP
Bench the lagging vets and take your losses at the trade deadline (their stats will suck and habs will either be stuck with, or take a cap hit with buyouts).
Fire Burrows

That’s as far as I would be comfortable - without anything impeding Rookie development.

With or without a top pick this year, the Habs will just bomb and gag and fail and bomb year after year like every other Canadian team with a “plan”. That’s why I’m always in favour of squeaking into the playoffs and ousting one of the top seeds in round one.

EDIT: As of 8:42pm ET this is the Cup Contender thread

You're just angry that you never made cucumber.
I'm far better than a cucumber. Seriously though why are you putting people down who want to rebuild this team properly? No one wants to see the team lose but we've been losing for 30 years. Losing right now is a hell of a lot better than half assed rebuilds on the fly that had the team stuck in the same cycle of mediocrity for 30 years. The real losers are the ones who accept mediocrity. We should have rebuilt this way long long ago.

Whoever wants a lottery pick wants the team to fail this year. This means poor development and the potential of our promising young core to take a massive hit

Seriously though why are you crying about the feelings of tankers in this glorious anti-tanker thread?
Yeah I’ve been shit on here for wanting them to win lol and it’s quite one sided it actually is sad for our own fan base to hope that guys like caufield all of our young D core ect to basically die as hockey players. Not saying they’re a playoff team but yeah it’s pathetic

This is a place for real habs fans. Lets fight til the END!
I guess there are 2 types of fans. Those that would like to see another cup victory and those that are satisfied with a few more wins without a shot at the cup.
I myself [A REAL HABFAN] want the team to work towards winning the cup not just being happy with making the playoffs.

Hard to want a playoff run when a future Stanley Cup almost certainly relies on another Top 5 pick.

Wanna be a bubble team this year and going forward, or do I want a Cup, maybe multiple, in the next 5-10 years? Easy answer when you take off the homer glasses.

A hot start by Caufield and Suzuki doesn’t mean this team is ready. Imagine adding another forward who is even better than them. And Slaf ain’t it.

McDavid and Mathews would like a word or two with you.

We have the depth though. Imagine adding a player of that caliber to our depth. We also seem to have a management group that is far more competent than either Edmonton or Toronto.

I truly believe a Top 5 pick this year is the difference and gives us a huge shot at a Cup.

At the same time, without it, we need multiple stars to align in order to make it happen. Don’t want to depend on luck and miracles.

This is factually incorrect. Look at Caufield, Suzuki and Dach have all progressed in their development despite being in losing and tanking teams last year. If you have the right coach that will allow the kids to play and make mistakes you can still lose games and the players will still develop properly. I'm not rooting for the team to lose and love seeing them win but being a bubble team is worse that tanking because then we lose out on getting another core piece of the team. Without elite talent we're still stuck in the same cycle in no man's land.

It’s also factually correct that there’s been countless young players ruined because of tanking. Arizona has developed who Keller? Has he even lived up to expectations? Our fragile young D would 100% take a step back if we win 30 games this year. It’s mentally taxing but anyway I’m not saying what you’re saying is wrong I just think that we both have validity here and you’re just more of a gambler which I like

I've mentioned this in other posts, but you can't assume that a top 5 pick will magically bring us to the promised land. In 2019 Kakko was 2OA while Caufield was 15th...who would you rather have right now? I know this feels like cherry picking but it's just to prove a point that you do not need to tank to get great players and/or build a team that will succeed.

Habs are doing very decent right now (for what was expected) and to wish for them to lose just so we have a "chance" at a high pick is beyond me. I agree that there are still some holes to be filled but those can be filled while still being competitive.

Let's cheer for our habs!

Agreed except that Slafkovsky could be as good as Caufield and Suzuki or close. Another top centre would be good though.
