A high draft pick is something they need and right now, with Vegas included, they are 12th. They could fall lower, into 10 even, given how close it is.

Dallas right now gets this 6th pick, that's not bad for a good team that had a bad year. They'll move out one if not both goalies and I'd say that given the rumors how much they want Bishop, they might pony up the cash. But then alot of teams (per Bobby Mac) are interesting in Big Ben.

I'd prefer not to get smoked by Chicago in the first round. Would ruin the 2013 and 2014 playoff series memories.

Playoffs. The implication would be that we ran the table and caught a team (most likely NSH) that lost a few. Going into the playoffs with that kind of high, well, it may be the impetus that wakes our Boys up.

As unlikely as it is.

A slim chance to win the cup
Or
A slimmer chance of getting a NHL quality player in a horrid draft

Given that either/or, I'll always go for the playoffs. Even if it was a deep draft. The 13th pick could turn out to be anything along the spectrum of possibilities. New franchise player? Who knows. A guy that plays 29 total NHL games? Who knows. Probably years before you even know one way or another. It ended up being a bad series, but we're still more likely to talk about and remember what happened in the 98 series against the Blues, then we are who the 1st round pick was in 2004.

The playoff atmosphere stays with you. The butterflies are always a little more buttery. I'll take four 10-0 losses in a sweep over wondering who or what the next 18 year old kid is.

1st overall pick? That's different. Kings are mathematically out? Do not win any more games Brian Willsie, even though it worked out alright.

Playoffs

But do not be fooled by a 5-2 win over a pathetic Jets team.

We may not be "mathematically" eliminated, but we are in fact eliminated.

Thus my preference is to lose the remaining 9 games and go out in a blaze of glory and highest draft pick possible

It might be a weaker draft than last year but it doesn't mean every player drafted won't be viable. A top 10 pick if you scout right, should be a good pick.
And I'd love the Kings to drop low enough to get Rasmussen. A 6'6 , 220 lb center, yes please. But right now he's hovering around the #7 spot so unless he falls , he'll be gone.
Hopefull HExtall doesn't screw up and he jumps all over that.

Playoffs, because anything can happen!

Plus, after winning in 2012 we drafted Pearson! So you don't have to tank to get a good player.

Playoffs all day! If by some miracle of God we make the playoffs. That's means we come in blazing hot, and that never a bad thing!

With that said, I'm doubtful that we make it, even if he we do get red hot in the final 9 games. So, I'm alright with tannking

The answer is never NOT playoffs for me. Playoffs all day, every day, no matter the result. Besides if you get smoked, you only drop a couple of draft slots, and in THIS ****** draft, that just means your success vs. expectations is likely to be higher :P

For us to even have a tiny chance of making the playoffs, we would have to win every single game remaining in the season, which is nearly impossible. But if such a magnificent feat could be accomplished, I think we could win several rounds in the playoffs. Realistically, I realize we have no shot at making it to the playoffs, so this argument is a moot point.

The biggest argument, however, is whether it benefits this team to play well (going above .500) in the remaining games, or if its better to tank the games to get a higher draft pick.

Personally, I think moving up to the 7 or 8 spot is better for the future of the franchise than ending the season on a high note and getting the 13th spot. I don't believe that end of season play carries over to the next season, so I don't see any point in how the team plays now. Also, a bad ending this season may persuade DL to finally fire Sutter.

I think if we got the 7 to 8 spot and won the lottery, obviously that is the best outcome. But if we don't, I think a package of Gaborik or Brown with the 1st round pick could be a tempting offer for Vegas.

People hear "weak" draft and assume that means there aren't good players, it's weak in terms of top end talent ala Matthews, Laine; game-breakers. In terms of quality players who'll be good NHLers it's a good draft and you're going to get a decent player, there's just not a huge gap from #1 to 15 etc like some years.

They're just saying it's weak compared to McDavid-Eichel - Matthews-Laine.

Nolan Patrick for example will probably be a good 2nd line center on a good team, 1st line center on a weaker team in terms of center depth.
