Here are the unknowns

Goaltending who in the hell has confidence in what we have now. We most certainly should have given up our first for Maf at 50 per cent. What franchise player are we getting at draft pick 20 plus. Even if we a decent one he is 3/4 years away

Muzzin- out with concussion. In the playoffs every player finishes their check. Muzzin is one hit away to being on the injured list.

Sandin- if reports are true about acl damage he is done this year

That leaves Reilly bush
Gio brodie
Holl Lilly

That’s pretty bad for playoffs-

If we get bounced again in the first round dubas should be gone

I like the Gio/Blackwell trade, would've really liked to see a splash for a bigger 2 LW and some more 4th line grit.

All that being said I am absolutely terrified of our goaltending situation. Hoping they prove me wrong but... Yea. Yikes.

We're an injury from Hutch in the playoffs for f*** sakes....which is probably an upgrade on Mrazek.
If I'm not mistaken the cap vanishes in the playoffs. If Campbell goes down, they likely bet it all on a Mrazek call-up

I posted it in the trade deadline thread, but the Leafs should go all in on undrafted goalie Dryden McKay come NCAA free agent season. He's been the best goalie in the NCAA for a few years now, finally in his last season.

Unfortunately I see no real reason why he'd wanna come to the goalie graveyard led by Briere. But if he wants to come in as a potential playoff starter, I don't see an easier path around the league pending any injuries between now and game 1 of the playoffs.

it is a loser's attitude.

The big-4 is in their prime and they think they can just write off years because it's "not their time?"

Who the f*** knows if Auston is still even here in 3 years
Talk about a losers attitude. Why would a player who seemingly loves attention and money leave the wealthiest most popular team that can pay him the most? Matthews is a leaf for life

They really need Muzzin back to push Holl out of the lineup.
Muzzin doesn't effect Holl. Liljegren is going to have to be the one to push Holl out.
Rielly-Lyubushkin
Giordano-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl
Liljegren

Sandin sounding like he may be shut down for this year.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned yet is how the three additions Dubas made, Lybushkin, Giordano, and Blackwell, make the Leafs “harder” to play against. Core guys need to provide some bite themselves of course but these acquisitions help.

Here are the goaltending situation in the East

Andersen
Brovrobski
Sawyman
Vasi
Campbell
Shesterkin
Vitek Vinecek

Sawyman replaces Rask. We all know who he was. Only his 2nd year and already a starter or can be a starter
Shesterkin took over from Hank. We all know who Hank was. Shesterkin is MVP this year of the league
Vitek very good upcoming goalie. Only his 2nd seasons

Andersen, Vasi, Brovo been starters for all their lives 5+ years minimum

Some of these guys are only getting their chances and proving they are starters
Some of these guys have already proved they have been starters for minimum 5 years

Campbell hasn't been a starter for 10 years nor is he an up and coming goalie
But that's the goalie you think it's going to take you to promise land?

You think he's your starter based on 3 months of play?

Ok I guess.

Just because you are harder to play against, doesn't mean you are hard to play against

They were butter soft. You could have added a lamp post and they would have been harder to play against

Thats an awfully optimistic view. What if he wants to win a cup?

I also think he'd be a much bigger star in his native USA. Put him on one of the old NBC darling teams and he'd be a much bigger star as the face of hockey in the USA.

Simple deduction would probably lead you to understand I was talking about Campbell's play dropping off a cliff.
Was that the 'space jam' reference?
Wouldn't it have been easier to just explain yourself instead of getting upset?

I trust Campbell more than I trust Andersen. I know, the bar is low.

If I am being objective, I am oddly more optimistic than most this upcoming post season even as the competition is fierce.

The reason? I've seen over the last two weeks Marner throw checks and flatten players in open ice, Matthews do the same, Tavares throw SEVEN in one night. I'm seeing a more comfortable team in the face of physical play. A team that can dish it out as well. THIS will be how they will succeed. Conviction.

The addition of the Russian Bear, competitive Giordano, with Muzzin hopefully returning, a potential rat pickup in Blackwell who can produce energy and bring some fresh looks in this lineup.

No team was ever going to be an easy mark in the playoffs . The Leafs D top to bottom is as good as any in the league now and our top 5 or 6 forwards just as well.

They need to look at some of the wins this year, especially some over the last two weeks and replicate it. Throw checks, play two way hockey and don't back down.

I am far more optimistic today than before this season began when Hyman and Bogosian walked. The season began with far more uncertainties than today and even through a bad stretch, Leafs are still a top 5 or 6 team.

This Leafs team has beaten Tampa Bay, Boston, Carolina, Colorado, Vegas, Calgary, Rangers this season.

Yes, the playoffs are a different beast, but this team has shown it can play a harder more stifling game. So, just do so when the big chips are in the middle. I look for Matthews to lead by example and the defense to hunker down and play with a mission. 20 Games to go.

Yes it's a 1996 movie with Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny about basketball. To help you with the rest of it...

All-star game goalie = Jack Campbell

Talent snatched = Losing all his goaltending talent

Calendar turning = when 2021 turned into 2022

I also expect them to push suckas and fight in the layoffs sire. Lyub might totally go godzilla on their asses and thug that thang out. Blackwell has intensity. Seen him play. But our otha fools like matthews and marner cant no longer laugh in the layoffs if a sucka is pushing them or grapping them... like chiarot and them did last year. Matthews gotta step up and out a kaibash crosscheck on their face. Just he is learning. Now THATS real hockey right thurr sire. Just like domi kadri tucker and sundin almost won it for us in the past. With leo komarov and drunk belfour.

Tbh I don't see the fit for Spezza and it's sad cuz he's a great dude it seems. Without Knies or Abruzzese even in the picture, we still stack up (at full health):
Bunting-Matthews-Marner
Kase-Tavares-Nylander
Engvall-Kampf-Mikheyev
Blackwell-Kerfoot-???

So that spot at full health comes down to potentially Robertson, Simmonds, Spezza, Clifford, Anderson. Would have to think with a lineup like that, a guy like Simmonds or Clifford would have the inside edge, as we essentially have nobody to answer the bell if things go sideways, which they will.

I hate that 3rd line and feel its gonna get eaten alive in the playoffs. You already have Engvall and Mikheyev who have combined for like 1 point in 15 playoff games. At some point were gonna need those guys to chip in, and I dont think they will. I hope I'm wrong.

When you look at Tampas back to back wins, their 3rd line was crucial for when the top lines negated eachother. Mikheyev has played a lot better this season but he can't go 0/7 on break always in the playoffs, he needs to bury those
