Playoff Roster

Mark Masters on Leafs lunch reminds us that there hasn't been a full house in game 1 of the playoffs in Toronto since 2004.
Crowd will be electric.

*Blackwell with JT and Robertson to play that Bunting type roll which is needed in playoffs
*2nd and 3rd lines are 2A 2B
*4th line whoever shows up to play

I remember the 1st game they opened it for the Leafs, it was such chaos.
Me and a buddy rescued 2 old people being crushed against the Telus building while trying to get inside the ACC.
We pretty much carried them right inside. Old guy bought us a beer when we got in.
Pretty scary.

I remember walking to get into the arena and there were so many young kids drinking, girls puking on the street with paramedics trying to help them. Thankfully MLSE has buttoned it up a bit and the crowds will never be like that again, it's much more contained now.

It will be the same as it was in 2019. It's a smaller space than it was when they first opened up it up in 2013 vs. Boston where it went all the way back to York. Now it's much more contained around the Square itself, and they have the stage and fences up to keep it small.

Yeah remember it well. It was insane, so poorly managed.

Looks pretty good to me. Clifford has been good lately too. Him and Spezza will probably be rotated in depending on how things are going.

I think that's pretty close though.

Didn't they say that Kase isn't really close? They probably keep Engvall on line 3 and then bring in Spezza or Clifford.

Keep Willy on the third line for the most offensive depth we can get. He’s been better down there.

Keep Kase on the 4th line, ease him back up into the line up. And we have scoring threats 4 lines deep

To me, this is the correct answer.

Elite first line.
Elite third line.
Hopefully JT/Willy can chip in the odd goal and play responsibly and not get caved in defensively.
4th line I add Spezza.
Also - If Kase plays. Might be on line 4.

Well we got our D set now for sure .. that was best I have seen our D all year .. they are ready to start da grind of playoff hockey .. so refreshing not to see Holl's defensive screw ups all game long .. now da 6 we got now can all play at an NHL level .. Holl and Sandin unfortunately just can't skate at n NHL level .. Keefer knows those 2 guys are Dubie's special guys so it will be an interesting dynamic to see how this shakes out .. does Keefer do da right hockey decisions or does he make da political decision???????

I’ll assume Bunting and Sandin are back, but Kase isn’t.

I think the following play too well together to split up:

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Engvall - Kampf - Mikheyev
Gio - Lily

Based on that, I’d go:

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Kerfoot - Tavares - Nylander
Engvall - Kampf - Mikheyev
Spezza - Blackwell - Simmonds

Rielly - Brodie
Gio - Lily
Muzzin - Sandin

Campbell
Kallgren

Not super confident in the 2nd F line or 3rd D pair, but they both have the ability to be very good when they’re on, I’d give that a shot in game 1.

Personally I don't see them putting in Sandin, at least for Game 1. Hasn't played in a while and wasn't great vs. Montreal last year. I think we see Boosh in still, and maybe Sandin checks in later in the series or in the case of an injury.

Apparently Sandin is probable for Friday, so he wouldn’t be going in completely cold.

I have concerns about using Boosh vs Tampa. He’s very physical, and solid defensively, but very weak in terms of breakouts and transition, and not good at maintaining possession in the o-zone. I’m worried we get hemmed into our own end too often with him, and when that happens against Stamkos, Kucherov, Point, Hedman, etc., you get scored on a lot. I think we need to win the possession/control battle to win the series, and I think Boosh is a bit of a liability there.

Yeah I guess I worry about Sandin getting hammered on the forecheck from some of Tampa's bigger guys and giving up the puck. Happened vs. Montreal a few times and resulted in goals against.
