mmmm not to sure about that!

Swede Nats 87 GP 20G 48A 68pts which includes 8 OG 1G 3A 4 pts

good numbers pretty much no doubt, and 20 years service to the National team is to be admired for sure, but the word of a former team-mate means nothing, not to mention the overall circumstances of his career?
You dont like some people at work. Is that your problem or the person you dont likes problem. And why go out like that and thrash a former teammate? Is that a teammate you want? W Nylander dont seem to be selfish in that regard anyway.

M Nylander was better before the stars arrived. When he got more ice time, when he was the go to guy. He always took to long shifts. Because he loved to play. This might have rubbed teammates the wrong way. The national teammates took him for what he was and made fun of that part.

What I am saying is. W Nylander is best when he get to play a lot, and is put in a place were he dictates the play. Some players you should just let loose. He is one of those players.

I belive the team would be better with Tavares up Bunting down, Nylander up dictating second line. Just like "here you go, do your thing, but this is your responsability now.". Not having to adjust to Tavares will do wonders.

Could be wrong, but i would at least try it once. If Tavares cant play better than Bunting or as good, then just hand the C to Matthews and put JT on the 4th line.

I think i'll get a lot of backlash for this but everytime I've seen nylander with M&M that line has looked stupid dangerous. With bunting missing a few chances maybe we can repurpose him to the second line and take william from the third which would then make our third line a defensive beast. As many have pointed our kampf with nylander makes zero sense.

Go with (wings maybe switched up but essentially)

Nylander-Matty-Mitch
Bunting-JT-Mikh
Kase-Kampf-Engvall
Kerfoot-Spezza-Blackwell
For 1, playoffs are a different animal, and Matthews-Marner are likely going to want to keep a guy like Bunting who will go into a scrum for them, or take a beating to try and take the goalies eyes away.
Yes Nylander-Matthews-Marner looked good in a small sample size, but the biggest difference is coaches aren't game planning for it or properly line matching because Keefe was throwing it out there unexpectedly. I think it's a better formula to keep that way imo. As a full time line, I think it doesn't compliment one another well. Also let's coaches heavy line match them, and then leaves only Tavares as a big threat on the other 3 lines. Right now we've been rolling cuz we're hard to match. You have to take away Matthews-Marner, but then you have JT and Willy on lines 2 & 3....makes it pretty hard on an opposing coach. Throw Willy up on the top line when you think you can catch em sleeping...but don't let em know it's coming or it'll lose its pop. That's just my opinion

Bunting Matthews Blackwell
Nylander Tavares Marner
Mikheyev Kamph Engvall
Knies Kerfoot Spezza
Clifford Simmonds

Rielly Brodie
Gio Lily
Muzz Boosh

Not sure Hutton has played since October 25 2021
Well I'm ready. Better grab some haha.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Engvall - Tavares - Mikheyev
Kerfoot - Blackwell - Nylander
Kase - Kampf - Simmonds

Rielly - Lyubushkin
Muzzin - Brodie
Giordano - Liljegren

My only change would be on the 4th line:

Knies - Kampf - Simmonds

Actually now that I look at it, it kind of wastes Kampf if you are lining him up with Simmonds/etc. Can't match him up then. Maybe bump Kerfy down and move Blackwell to LW.

That third and fourth line stack up well and is as good as almost any other contender (spezz being the weak link but I'm sure he will bring it in the playoffs) and bunting is exactly the type of player taveras needs to free him up in front of the net. That first line is just disgusting.

interesting, would def like to see a few games with that trio at the top to get a better sense.

could also swap JT & Willy on that.

The only reason why I don't want to swap JT there is because at least he wins faceoffs at an elite level which results in more possession time for us. But you're def right. Besides that they're fairly interchangeable.

I just think it makes too much sense.

If Knies ends up signing with the Leafs this year and Kase is shut down for the season, Then I would have Knies slot in on the 4th line at LW. If both are available, then they can rotate in and out, depending on how they look. Same goes for Spezza and Simmonds at RW.

I put Kampf down on the 4th line because it helps solidify the line defensively, where Keefe won't be worried if they're caught out on the ice after an icing. Keefe also doesn't really use Kampf regularly as a shutdown center 5vs5 against the oppositions top lines. Those matchups would go to the Matthews and Tavares lines, where they could also provide much more offense, on top of playing well in their own zone. Kampf will also continue to get additional minutes on the PK.

Finally, I think putting Nylander on a line with Kerfoot and Blackwell could really be exciting and useful. Willy and Kerfoot already have good chemistry together, add in Blackwell's continuous motor and that line could be quite a handful for the opposition to handle. Blackwell and Kerfoot's nonstop energy while out on the ice can also help cover up for when Nylander has is occasional lazy shifts.

Bunting - Matthews - Marner
Mikheyev - Nylander - Kerfoot
Engvall - Tavares - Spezza
Pick three of Knies - Kampf - Kase - Robertson - Simmonds - Blackwell - Clifford

Rielly - Brodie
Muzzin - Sandin
Giordano - Liljegren

Campbell
Kallgren

1. Rielly (heart and soul guy with ELITE speed)
2. Muzzy (when healthy he can be a defensive force)
3. Brodie (needs to clean up his net front game but real steady)
4. Gio (age has slowed him down a bit but most complete defense we have now)
5. Lily (would help if he had some more experience but he has NHL skills in spades)
6. Lub (would help if he was a bit faster)
7. Sandin (just lacks NHL speed from being a top 4)
8. Holl (just lacks NHL skating and could play a tougher game)

Complete pipe dream if anyone thinks Keefe will sit a healthy Muzzin.

Come playoff time I will put money on the pairings being:

Rielly-Brodie
Muzzin-Holl (they will ride or die with this pairing)
Giordano-Boosh

i don't think so tbh,

The only guys Boosh can play with are Mo and Sandin. Boosh will be with Rielly or out of the lineup imo (but not out there for o-zone draws).

They would love if Muzz-Holl could get their games back but so far its not working. Muzz-Brodie was excellent together tho.

And so far with Gio it's only worked with Lilly - the GIo-Holl and Gio-Boosh pairings have both been disasters.

Gio-Lilly is quickly turning into a lock and I imagine if Muzzin-Brodie looks good again tonight they're getting close to lock status too.

which means Boosh with Rielly.....though ironically that pairing probably becomes closer to our 3rd pairing in terms of usage than our 1st pairing.

I have a terrible feeling that Liljegren is going to be the one sitting come playoff time even though he's been the 2nd best D for the Leafs over the last month.

this going back to Gio-Lilly tonight is a key sign I think.

Gio-Holl and Gio-Boosh were both disasters. If Gio-Lilly are right back to awesome tonight Keefe is gonna have a tough time breaking them up again.

And then we're down to a battle of two options going forward imo:

Rielly - Boosh
Muzz - Brodie

or

Rielly - Brodie
Muzz - Holl

Holl has the PK but I think boosh can pull it off. Give him a try to be the main PK D for the next few games and let's see.

Seems like it'll come down to playing a heavy top-4, or a more balanced 6. I'd like to see if Muzzin-Lyub can be a no nonsense 3rd pair+PK. Wouldn't offer much in terms of puck movement, but last minute of the game we'd have a keep the puck out at all costs pair.

Rielly-Brodie
Giordano-Liljegren
Muzzin-Lyub
