I have a Be a GM season going using the Dallas Stars. Instead of simulating the games i am watching them while i do other hobbies. Anyway, i just completed the last game of the year and i was surprised of the full year results.

My team made the playoffs as the 2nd wildcard with a record of 40-30-12 for 90 points. We has 191 GF and 178 GA. Our PP was 14.2(7th in the league) and our PK was 87.1(1st in the league). My team had the least amount of PP's my 22 PP's.

Skater stats is where the disadvantage looks so bad.
Seguin 22g 27a 49p
Radulov 18g 25a 43p
Nichushkin 19g 21a 40p
Benn 20g 19a 39p
Spezza 15g 22a 37p

Bishop 38w 21l 11otl 7so 93.3sv% 1.93gaa

The goalie looks really good but i have a hard time believing that the big 3 in Dallas don't hit 50 points.

These are the highest and lowest of the team stats around the league best listed first.
records 53-19-10 / 33-41-8
PP% 25% / 12.9%
PK% 88.4% / 72.2%
GF 253 / 182
GA 178 / 263
Times on the PP 270 / 169(my teams advanages, next team up was 191)
Times on PK 191 / 281

Some games my team would not shoot the puck. Some games we took 12 shots total, others we took 35.
The last game of the year we needed to win to make the playoffs. We won the game 4-3 but the team only took 12 shots total. The opposing team took over 40. How can i get them to shoot more?? i dont want every game to be 6-5 but i'd like to always get 25 plus shots.

After the first year I have manually simulated each game keeping the same settings. Wouldn't you know it, looks normal again. Seguin touching 90+ pts. Team did pretty good getting second in the Central. Beat the Wild in the first round, Sharks in second, and lost the Conference final to the Blues who end up winning the Stanley Cup.

Back in NHL 17 I did what you described in OP for two seasons and had similar results. You also would have noticed some wonky stuff if you compared your player's other stats such as Faceoffs, Giveaways, Takeaways to the rest of the league. Basically, you won't get realistic numbers in watched games. Part of the reason is that the coach will just roll lines and play them to exhaustion, so ice-time is very evenly spread and your 1st and 4th lines have roughly the same chance to score. Only reason it's not a completely flat spread for points is player attributes and slight boosts to ice-time from PP. Now I sim 100% of games.
