On the ice, he’s dynamic, exhilarating, and at times frustrating. Off the ice, he’s refreshingly honest, self-assured, and — yes — cocky. As a first-round pick of the New York Islanders, Josh Ho-Sang has been picked apart and scrutinized. And not only does he profess to not care about what people think; he also feels they’re not seeing the real him.

“I just kind of laugh at [people who criticize him].… read more

Awesome read!! I really enjoyed it. Josh really is a bright kid and I think a bit misunderstood.

I love that his teammates really like him. As long as he works on his transition and cuts down the turnovers I think he will be a very skilled playmaker at the next level. The only downside to him is that he's basically a top 6 forward or bust. . I'm looking forward to seeing him continue to develop.

I was a huge dal Colle fan (well still am), but since we took Ho sang, the kid has become my favorite spec. A different character, but a kind of character the NHL needs. The kid is a refreshing side of what is typical a monotone type of sport if that makes sense.

I mean, I honestly don't think Ho Sang will be an issue at the next level. I can't explain it but the thought of Ho sang playing along side tavares is just making my mouth water. I know it will be a few years away but man it feels good to have prospects in the pipeline like Ho sang.

Really wish he kept #66 but he probably got a lot of crap for it and it's not worth the distraction.

Definitely a superb talent. Looks like his game has some kinks (turnovers) that need to be dealt with in the AHL before becoming an Islander. Can't wait to see the finished product in a few years.

Ho-Ho-Ho with Josh Ho-Sang!

For a player who has been bashed and dismissed as a selfish and immature player, he sure does has a high assist to goal totals?

Hopefully that large chip on his shoulder is going to push his high end talent into high NHL production in a few years.

Have to question if it was true, posted in the prospects thread what Marty Williamson said on a broadcast pre game show around a month ago.

Having followed that thing and read everything, I'm convinced of the following:

(i) Ho-Sang is a puck hog who turns the puck over like puck hogs do. This is appreciated nowhere.

(ii) Some traditional hockey folks took to deriding Ho-Sang as if they'd never seen a puck-hog before.

(iii) Ho-Sang bristled at this, wondering (reasonably) why he'd been singled out for particularly harsh treatment.

(iv) Traditional hockey folks fired back, because Ho-Sang got all uppity.

(v) Toronto media gotcha'd Ho-Sang, implying he played the race card.

(vi) Ho-Sang had to apologize for being goaded, while still being singled out for harsh treatment. Wonder what explained that....

As far as the NYI, Niagara, and Ho-Sang are concerned, all we have to worry about is the first point - being a puck hog and turning the puck over. How Garth handled the draft + the trade to Niagara made everything else irrelevant.

Don't care about anything but the first point either Dan. Williamson said in the article about trying to make too many highlight reel plays, sounds like he wants to see more simple decisive plays instead of holding on to the puck to long which leads to turnovers. Don't think JHS is selfish that the puck is only his, that he can learn if willing.

I think with the Windsor team he was the big attraction so his play built on itself. Since his assists total are high now, I see him as a team player. I think the New York media will love him if he ever makes it here, which seems likely.

Can't really complain that he's in Niagara, but I would have loved him going to Oshawa so he could develop alongside MDC. Oshawa and Niagara are like 1A and 1B for programs we like to draft from.

Dont really love this kid too much, hes got great hands but hes all about himself. Hes very immature and extremrly cocky for a kid that doesnt find the twine all that much. He wouldnt fit in with this tight group and i would still look to trade him.

I think I have to agree with you on that one; that cocky/arrogant attitude is aggravating, and while he might end up being a decent offensive player, I can't see him fully buying into the team concept.

He reminds me of Kadri

He also has an awful lot of assists for a guy who's all about himself. Ultimately we're judging this 18 year old kid based on a few tidbits from hockey media.

Great thing about this situation is we have a bunch of solid characters on the Isles. If Ho Sang ever makes it to the bigs he'll have guys like JT, Martin, Boychuck(hopefully), Hamonic, ect., to guide him. Couldn't ask for a better group of guys to look up to.

It matters if it bugs his teammates and coach. It doesn't matter if you are aggravated.

All these reports of him being all about himself are ridiculous. There were a couple things said that were blown out of proportion and the media took his confidence and maybe even a little cockiness and turned it into a negative. The reports from his teammates, coaches and the fact that his assist total is as high as it is should end that debate.

Ho-Sang isn't even close to being the same type of people Kane and Kadri are. Those guys are just idiots are cause problems. What problems has Ho-Sang actually caused?
