These are my top 217 rankings. They are my own. I watch a lot of hockey. I read a lot(and I have certain people's opinions that I take into account), but these rankings are from my own observations. This is the order I would draft these guys in without considering need, tendencies, etc. Please feel free to comment(I may not have seen every player - and I also don't get to watch every player multiple times, so if they have a poor game when I see them, it's unlikely they'll have a high ranking). I put a pile of time into this, but I have a day job....and then some, so it's not perfect because I don't have the time of a professional scout, but I have been posting these for quite a few years now, and want to keep going for as long as I can, then one day be able to look back and rate myself as a scout.

Wow, this is a great list. I've got some issues with the 1st round (Podkolzin too high, Caufield too low, etc) but rounds 2-7 are probably the best I've seen on here.

Only player that stood out to me that isn't ranked is Mike Gildon. He was 8th in ppg in the USHL behind the obvious 1st rounders, and is a great two-way player. I expect he'll get drafted in a few days.

Wow, Kakko first. Bold choice.

On the rest of the finns, a bit lower on the Finnish Ds than would be the norm, but I guess there are enough question marks to justify such an opinion. Aaltonen higher than usual, which is something I like.

would be fantastic if the Sens at 19 have a choice between
Tomasino, Seider and Broberg

The options at 32 are really good as well
Bjornfot, Heinola, Johnson, Rees, Matt Robertson, Kolyachonok

At 44
Thomson, Leason

Could be a great haul if it goes like this.

Strange to rank prospect penalty killers since it's a job usually picked up by those who can't make their top 6.

Not to say it is not useful insight into a player's capacity.

Any idea what percentage of top junior PKers go on to have the role in the big leagues?

I’m not going to get into the Podkolzin debate with you here since I’ve beat it to death in the Oilers Draft Board. Really hope he becomes an Oiler. Caufield is the flavour of the month on HF for sure. Truth is nothing has changed for me. He had a great U18, but he didn’t do anything to change my opinion of him. He’s a goal scorer. Perhaps even a great goal scorer. He does little else. He doesn’t create his scoring chances. He finds holes, and buries the chances he gets. That warrants a first round selection. Having the ability to score goals is a special talent, but at Caufields size and with his skating ability and the rest of his game, he has to score...in every game...or he’s just a body. He doesn’t create for his line mates, he doesn’t win board battles consistently, and he doesn’t get back to break up scoring chances. If he does even one of those things well I’d have him top 10, but he doesn’t. He lit up the U18’s, but should I be more convinced now that his game will translate to playing against the biggest, fastest and strongest players in the world? I’m not down on the player, I just didn’t let one tournament where he did exactly what he’s done all year affect my rankings. There are enough question marks with this player for me to keep him out of the top 10. If recency bias is going to affect my rankings then Lavoie is the top 10 pick. What he did in the Q playoffs was nothing short of remarkable.

Am I the only one having a really tough time ranking the USDP forwards outside of Turcotte, Hughes, Zegras, Caufield and Boldy? Who carries who. Judd Caulfield impresses me every time I watch him, but the production isn’t there. Gildon kind of got lost in that shuffle for me. Not saying I’m right, just with so many good players in one place, some guys are along for the ride...might Gildon be one of them.

Great job! Don't sleep on some players already playing in the NCAA - namely Tyce Thompson at Providence.

Ya I’m probably Kakko’s biggest fan. At the U18’s last season I put him in my #1 spot and he never left. I really like this player and think he is going to be special in the NHL.

Agreed. Although the Senators made a major error in trading their own first this year, they have done a good job of recouping picks and over the next three years they will add a lot of talent to their prospect pool. The tough thing for them, in my opinion, will be allowing these picks the proper development time because GM's get so anxious to either win or put an exciting product on the ice to save their job.

Fagemo is really low, to me.
I believe I had Fagemo ranked about the same position last season(at least at mid-term). I like the player, but as a rule I would say that I am not as high on any overagers as most. Just a preference thing I guess....
