To pitt: tierney (rfa)
To Ottawa: murray (rfa)

how would this proposal work? I figured Ottawa could use a young goalie for their future and pitt gets their third line centerman. Not really sure how good tierney is though.

thoughts?

Tierney does make sense as a potential target for 2 reasons:

1. Tierney was apparently a 3C target by JR back in the 2017 off-season, after they didn't re-sign Bonino
2. JR is looking for a defensively strong 3C this off-season, based on an interview he gave this afternoon

I think the value is pretty good too, both have the value of probably about 2 2nds. I think this makes sense.

I wasn't sold on Tierney because I didn't think he was that good analytically, but I just saw his isolated impact charts and it said a different story:

Yeah that sounds like a good trade for both teams. Address both team's needs and the value of the RFAs is just about equal IMO.

Ottawa has Nilsson and Hogberg signed on 1ways next sesaon. Unless Nilssons concussions keep him out for longer than intended, I highly doubt Ottawa would be trading for another goalie.

The Penguins could also take Hogberg back. If they run with Jarry-DeSmith, they'll need a 3rd goalie to be the starter in WBS.

If Nilsson is out for the season, I would see them just bringing back Anderson tbh. We just have so many goalie prospects etc, doesn't make sense to trade for another goalie.

How many goalies does Ottawa have in their system at this point?

Mads Sogaard - 37th overall pick last year
Daccord - very nice first pro season last year in the AHL
Hogberg - Solid first season in the NHL last year
Mandolese - Fnally put it together in the QMJHL last season and put up top tier numbers
Gustavsson - Struggling a bit in the AHL, but has very promising tools. Acquired him from PIT in the Brassard trade

And Nielsson .....That makes 6 ,yeah we likely arent trading for a goalie

1. Sens already have two goaltenders + a bunch of spares.
2. Murray is expensive. Ottawa doesn't want to spend money
3. Murray was dogshit last season on a fairly good team and Ottawa's goalies were better on a bad team. I don't think he will 100% be an improvement.
4. Ottawa needs quality players like Tierney because they have few NHL vets
5. Ottawa has a bunch of other options in Free Agency that doesn't cost them Tierney.

No interest whatsoever.

Well its s good thing its a known fact Ottawa does have interest in murray and he could very well land up there. Pitt declines this deal especially after today
