Waived: [PIT] G Tristian Jarry waived by the Penguins

Dubas gave $27 million each to Jarry and Graves on the same day right after he was hired by the Pens.

That’s $52 million in salary to a guy that is now on waivers and another guy that is now a perennial healthy scratch on one of the worst D corps in the league.

Why does/did anyone ever think Kyle Dubas was qualified to run an NHL team?

I'm a Habs fan... I'm just like others looking in from the outside and saying WTF?

Sad to see the Pens fall like this.
Them falling was inevitable. People believing they could continue on the same path is what led them to this state currently.

The greats always fall off no matter what they try. It happens in every sport. It is especially rough because an almost 40 year old is still their best player.

I said it years ago with several Leafs fans. Hired a rookie GM at the most important time in franchise history. He's extremely overrated as a NHL GM and should have been an assistant for several years. He needs mentorship because there are way too many questionable moves he makes.

Never improved the Leafs in his time there. Didn't add the piece on D they needed and kept on adding soft skilled types. You don't get credit for Nylander, Marner, Matthews and Tavares wanting to come home.

We talk about the NHL being a copy cat league. I wish more teams would copy the VGK route of ruthlessness.

For the Pens though, I'm still like "why is it that nearly every trade and signing looks like shit when they get here. Whooooooooooooo is the common denominator. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Is a Gibson homecoming a possibility?
I'd think there's certainly been a phone call to Anaheim. But with Gibson being much more like his old self since coming back, I can't see PV wanting to let him go for anything less than a decent price seeing as goaltending has been one of the brighter spots this season. Can Pittsburgh even fit his cap hit? Anaheim could certainly retain but that will absolutely increase the cost (as will knowing Pitt is a bit over the barrel here...).

Then there's the whole 'will John waive to go to another team that looks to be trending off a cliff in the upcoming future'. After suffering through all the down years with the Ducks, I don't know how excited he'd be going into pretty much the start of another one. At least he'd know that he could escape in a couple of years once the contract is up. Maybe playing at home could overcome that.

I liked Dubas when he was with Toronto. I've said many times that I would have kept him around, and I agreed with most of the moves he made. So I'm far from a hater.

But his handling of the goaltending position in Toronto and now in PIT has been atrocious! Dubas doesn't get enough criticism for mishandling goaltending in both cities. The only thing he ever did right was not extending Jack Campbell.

It's a glaring fault, and this Jarry business is only a fraction of the overall problem. The guy doesn't know what to do with a goalie, and it's been clear for years and years.

He's tried throwing money at the position, with Jarry and Mrazek. Failure. He's tried finding underrated options, like Campbell and Samsonov. Failure. Dubas makes the wrong move with goaltending every single time.

Fair points. It's hard to say what direction they'll go here. I actually do like their prospect who would be next in line, he had a decent start to the season

In Jarry’s case, we knew he was shit and still signed him, but yea, Mike Sullivan still being the Pens coach is utter insanity.

Because hes a good talker. He knows what you want to hear. But when you look past that and look at the actual results, hes god awful.

Now what's Sully's excuse gonna be when the team is still garbage after TJ is gone?

TJ has been awful this year but the team in front of him has been next level bad for years. They give up the most 3rd period leads to regulation losses over the past 3 years in the league. That's more than just the goalie.

The ironic thing about life is that if Jarry had started over Murray in '20 the Penguins would have beaten Montreal. If Jarry had been healthy and not Louie Louie in 22 we would have beaten the Rangers, who went to the cup finals.

Jarry is absolutely horrible now, just as Murray can't make the show.

Goalies man. You gotta know when to put em in and when to pull em out.
