The contract Dubas gave out to him was heinous but I don't think anyone could have projected he'd fall off as hard as he did. When he signed that deal, he was coming off of a season with a .909 save% and a -2.8 GSAx, he was a perfectly mediocre starting goalie. He has completely collapsed since then.

Jarry is another marvelous example of "do not pay mediocre goalies". He's another guy on that Campbell/Merzlikins/Petersen group that wasn't good enough to justify the massive money/term they got.

He doesn't really give up *bad* goals he just gives up a lot of goals that you'd expect a $6 million goalie to stop at least once in a while.

I don't think his demeanor and body language endears him to anyone in the organization either.

Precisely. If he was a loved competitor and teammate there is a number of solutions occurring before this.

I want to be clear, that this reply is not me coming to the defense of Jarry. I thought the contract was bad the minute it was signed but I did understand why Dubas felt he needed to do it.

As bad as Jarry has been, the Penguins are a very weak team defensively speaking. That is from both the player and system aspect.

I do tend to believe, still, that Jarry could be serviceable on a team that has a solid defensive system with players dedicated to playing it.

That said, I am sooooooooo friggin happy that this nightmare (from the NHL aspect) is over.

Couldn't beat the Kraken at home after loosing two straight. Chasing the playoffs and you would have thought this was their rebound game.

When will they come to their senses? I guess this lies mostly on Malkin and Crosby to tell management a change is required. Best to allow the Pens to get assets while they are still good and they chase cups somewhere else. Management can only talk to them about their NMC and what they want to do.

Pens are in for a very long rebuild headache if they don't capitalize on the opportunity they have now... to accelerate a rebuild by bringing in futures for their vets.

To be fair, Merzlikins looked like a legitimate starting goalie and had great numbers when the contract was signed. His game just fell off the moment that contract was signed.

He ranks 71 out of 90 goalies in low-danger unblocked save percentage so there is room for improvement there too.
