Confirmed Trade: [SJS/PIT] Vincent Desharnais for 2028 5th

He's a gigantic RD, so I knew that the Penguins would get some kind of asset in return for him - but I thought we might have to wait until next season to do that. I am pleased with getting the asset now, even if we have to wait, as we shed his salary for next season.
For the Sharks, as I said, they will get some kind of asset for him next trade deadline, and they may even get to use theirs earlier than we'll get to use ours.
Maybe.

I think with the Nashville trade I view it as a positive for us.

I know I should care about years but quite frankly I don't for a 4th or 5th.

We went down a draft round and we swapped Novak for Bunting

Desharnais for Schenn.

That's a W.

Please twist that into a good signing. Your team outbid the Oilers for his services and instantly regretted it yet you're here throwing shade lol.

The Canucks outbid other teams too, but he would have saved money by not having to uproot his life, the Oilers could have probably gotten him for 1.5m/1y. He wasn't a good signing for Vancouver in hindsight, but it's not like he had a debilitatingly bad contract, it was easily dumped and Pittsburgh just got positive value from it.

He was also a lot more redundant with Vancouver than Edmonton. The Canucks had four better 6'5 defensemen, and the Oilers let him leave when an equivalent replacement would have cost them the same amount, or more. To say this was Desharnais' "fault" for "chasing the big contract" is silly, when the Oilers refused to spend more than $1/1y on a player who by all accounts was liked by the organization and would have to go out and spend more for a replacement, while also not really improving their roster.
