A lot of people were itching to move Rakell before the season and talked about what kind of sweetener they'd have to add to make it happen. Now people are talking about a 1st rounder not being enough of a return.

Time is an asset. Things can change in a year. We're in no rush.

Then...what's the rush to move Jarry? I still don't understand why that's a move that had to happen asap.

As I’ve said, I don’t want him in the organization. I don’t want him mentoring our prospects. I don’t want him taking starts away from them.

An AHL coach wants and needs to win. They’re not going to bench a guy who would likely be the top goalie in the league and has extensive NHL experience so a prospect can develop. We’re seeing it already down there. Of course they will play him if he’s there and give him the bulk of the load.

I think this is different. Would be really surprised if he plays another game in PIT, and you can’t keep him in the AHL for the duration of his contract bc he’s clogging it up for other prospects.

Buyout feels likely.

I guess we just see things differently.

I think spending money to get rid of a player, before we have any use for the cap space, who's never shown toxic behaviour, is a poor use of resources.

They don't need to bench Jarry. He could easily split starts with Murashov - who's already put up better AHL numbers than Jarry - and I don't see how that would be detrimental to his development in the least.

By worse, i mean poisoning the young developing players in WBS with a negative and toxic attitude…

Its a question of buy him out now or later. Now is better…
One would think that if Jarry had any aspirations for playing in the league again, he would be fully aware that he needs to elevate his game, and maintain a positive attitude. Word would almost certainly get around the league quickly if he had a sour attitude, and that started to affect his teammates. Additionally, if he does indeed crap the bed, there would be one less year on his contract to factor into a buyout. And that's not to say that I don't see the point you make. I just believe the potential benefits far outweigh the supposed risk.

I am sure he is thrilled to be in the AHL while struggling to accept his NHL career is over.
NHLers face a lot of adverse circumstances. Believe it or not, some handle it like professionals.

And unless you can show some evidence to the contrary, there's nothing to suggest Jarry isn't doing exactly that.

Jarry like most goalies can come back to form. I am not sure his hip/back will ever be 100% but after this year, a 3 year term at 5 AAV is movable with the cap going up. Pens will probably retain on a Karlsson trade and Dubas can retain on Jarry but at some point, Jarry playing well is the best outcome. Jarry got a wake up call here.

We are speculating on how he could get worse. Not stating facts.
Even if Jarry became toxic out of nowhere, that doesn't change anything for the Pens. He could still be bought out at the next opportunity and they'd have lost absolutely nothing.

Spending assets or cap space to get ahead of a phantom problem when the cost of the solution doesn't change even if it were to happen would be goofy.

If he gets toxic, it speeds up the need to buyout. That’s how it gets worse. So indeed, Jarry situation could get worse!

Exactly what are you envisioning Jarry doing that would make any end of year buyout untenable? Hazing rituals? Devil worship?

The Flyers had an actual toxic player in Anthony Deangelo and bought him out when the time came without any discernible damage.

Whatever make-believe scenario you're imagining, it'd either be fine to buy him out at year end, or it would be so bad that it would constitute breach of contract and the Pens could terminate the deal.
