Waived: [PIT] F Emil Bemstrom waived by the Penguins (cleared)

He's been a minor leaguer most of the season. Came up for a bit due to injuries. If anything this is an indication that the team is getting healthy and they intend to keep McGroarty, Koivunen up for a while.

I don't believe that they sent Bemstrom down to the AHL before the deadline to be eligible for the AHL playoffs, so I'm a bit curious to see what happens there.

Guess this means Malkin is back and there's no point in keeping Bemstrom up.

That seems like a huge oversight. He'd be nice to have for the AHL playoffs but I guess it means more time for the prospects.

Bemstrom and Jarry were both papered to the AHL.

Crazy this guy got so many chances.
Tbf he kinda earned call ups with his AHL play

Columbus definitely rushed him, but he puts up crooked numbers any time he plays in the AHL so I get kinda why. Neither team invested much aside from the roster spot, so it's hard to get too upset about it.

He's just one of those guys who can't handle the speed difference. The time and space in the slot just isn't there and he's useless without it. He'll likely have a beastly European career.

Yeah he has the same problem you see with a ton of other top AHL scorers. The game in the AHL is slower, so players have more times to make plays. Guys like Bemstrom and Puustinen can put up good AHL numbers, but they can't play their offensive game at NHL speeds and end up totally useless in the NHL.
