He's the best available, which in the confines of that notion, is terrible as the #6, and come playoff time it would be even more prevalent.

At 5'11" 191 lbs is not what you'd consider a defensive D-man in this day an age. Propping up with what seems a pretty favorable first half to the season that won't wear well on him in the 2nd half with tougher competition and even worse into the playoffs playing the same tough competition in 7 game series. What could go wrong?
