Pretty sure these contracts have offset language. If he takes another coaching job for like 10 M per year, the Pistons are only on the hook for the difference between what they were paying and that 10 M.

Unless the Lakers come calling he likely sits out at least a year. From what I remember, he had no intention of coaching last year (wanted time off given what he went through personally) but obviously couldn't turn down the Pistons offer.
