Engvall has a nice blend of size, grit, speed, skill, and smarts to slide up an down the line up as needed.

Seems to be a trend with all of these wingers the Leafs have developed with the Marlies in the last couple of years. That's exactly what you need out of your prospect pool.

Debatable, but Ceci doesn't have the "toughness" that makes Gudbranson "valuable".

I'm not opposed to trading Ceci, mind you. I just don't want to give up another first to do it, for example.
Anaheim was willing to take on that horrific contract just to get any RD. Toughness wasn't even a consideration. Ceci s a much better player.

I'm not entirely sure how you can know that for a fact (toughness seems to be part of Gudbranson's shtick), but if true, great! I'd be happy to move him and call up Lily. Saves us enough money to upgrade on Hutch too, or perhaps get a better RD.

You'll forgive me for being pessimistic when it comes to the Leafs and contract management.

few old school GMs / coaches (incl. don cherry) are Gudbranson's fan club members. Don't think Ceci has that. Ceci is untradable. Keefe should put him out in the last PP last game

Engvall is so toolsy. He reminds me of a baseball prospect who had no concept of the strike zone, but was drafted for pure athleticism and worked his way to the Show. He's big, he's fast, he has a hard shot, works hard...I'm still not sure how much he has to give offensively, but I think at the least his athleticism and tools will keep him in the NHL.

How the Grinch almost stole Christmas.

Some Leaf fans wanted Engvall recalled and played much earlier, but we had to live with Nic Petan and Nick Shore.

Not until the Christmas season was fast approaching, with our stockings filled with coal, did we finally see the Grinch remove all the Saint Nicks, and fill our stockings with Engvall and good cheer instead.

I think at forward TO is probably now one of the biggest teams in the NHL.

What I like about Engvall is he's aggravating to play against as are AJ, Hy, Ker but there isn't anyone to back up their aggravation. Mostly all of TO's roster is friendly giants.

I don't think the addition of 1 d-man would mean a whole lot to TO unless he'd be an absolute stud which I don't think are available.

TO intimidates with speed and talent, I'm alright with that now that the speed and talent are allowed to play.

Engvall is an NHLer. I don't think there is any doubt at this point. He may not be a big producer, but he has very valuable skills.

Big, strong, heavy, fast, good puck possession, good defensive instincts, good PKer, can play any position, can play on basically any line and keep up...

Everything he touches seems to turn to gold lately. Hope it keeps up!

Before anointing him as sure fire NHLer let him play 82 games. People build these kids up then when they don't reach their unrealistic expectations they'll tear them apart. How we wait and see how he develops before making roster decisions.

He doesn't have to be a superstar to be an NHLer. Even if he goes full-Gauthier in offensive production, then he offers enough in other areas to be a 4th liner.

I think the only reason were able to get these looks at players like Engvall is because of Keefe. If Babcock brought him up he'd have gone back to the Marlies weeks ago regardless of his play. This new openness to evaluating talent and deployment bodes well going forward.

This guy really deserves to be on this team but unfortunately I see them sending him down once Johnsson is back (Barring a Trade)

Good take. He can be aggravating to play against but is kind of a gentle giant. It's fine since he's still effective but I hope he'll be ready to switch gears such as in a hard hitting chippy game against the Bruins in the playoffs

He'd do very well on the Tavares line to help with defensive assignments and take some of the load off of JT.

Marner Matthews Nylander
Engvall JT Mikheyev

RIP opposition..

JT has historically done very well with chippy guys who can take a pass and dig out the puck. Their speed will only help with that.

Hyman Kerfoot Johnsson/kapanen

One of Nylander/Johnsson/Kapanen needs to go.

His board play is good enough that he would work in the top-6 even if he had no offensive instincts or shot. But he does have those things. I have a hard time seeing him not being able to play the Hyman role on one of the top lines, but the priority should be developing him into a match-up 3C.

He was engaged like that for the Marlies last year during the playoffs. Hopefully he can flip the switch again this playoffs and play a more abrasive game.

Ah man not being able to like posts is a bit awkward but that is good to hear. He was a bit like that during his first few games as well. Definitely gives the Leafs some grit and push back when needed. Good talk

if you watched him the last couple of years in the playoffs with the marlies he gets involved in scrums and takes the body consistently. You will be pleasently surprised
