Can't they send down timashov and trade Spezza? Spezza sucks, I don't care what people on here say. As leafs fans we're way too quick to see a big name and act like it's the same player from 5 years ago in their prime. Did the same overhyping when Marleau signed here.

Either a technical glitch or a matter of putting the liquor down friend. I don't even have liking privileges right now

This is what happens when you take every last dime that you can on your contract. Now we are a couple hundred grand away from keeping a really good young player. Is your life really gonna be that much better if you make 10 million a year as opposed to 11?

11 million and 93. You know, because of Dougie...:sarcasm:

Debatable. AJ is a better player than Engvall, has outscored him every year, and got 20 goals last year as a rookie which people quickly forgot.
I agree AJ is better but at some point, given the cap, someone has to go. Kap or Johnsson is going to be sacrificed assuming Engvall isnt sent down. Trading Ceci should be what happens but it wont.

Wonder if Engvall could ever develop into a NHL centre. Don't really like Kerfoot. Would love it if Engvall could eventually replace him.
I watched Engvall for a while in person on the Marlies and you could really see how raw he was but see his development pretty quickly. I'm not shocked at all that hes basically cemented himself as an NHL player. He probably could replace Kerfoot in the near future, but right now? It's too soon.

I don't think Engvall will ever become some great offensive dynamo but I do think he will be a valuable player.

I remember him from training camp 2 years ago and I thought he was impressive then, he's even more so now and now he's playing against NHL players.

A player he reminds me of is Kuraly from Boston, another popgun offense type of player but a player that has been very effective against TO.

A better Leo!

At the very least he's as good as Moore and Timashov, TO's PK has been far better with him. I can't see how he doesn't stay with the Leafs and if he doesn't it would probably only be a numbers game.

Timashov is PROBABLY extremely underrated for being able to help a line cycle the puck in the o zone for an extended length of time. No matter who he has played with on the 4th line, the 4th line more often than not had been extremely effective in sustaining o zone time for periods way longer than any other leaf line. I'm beginning to see that timashov has always been the common denominator in this.

I think Tima and Engvall complement each other really well. Engvall with his size strength and reach and timashov with his skillful tenacity.

Moore is also an extremely effective 4th liner. I think Engvall is the better hockey player but certainly a bit more raw than Moore right now.

Engvall Moore Timashov Gauthier should keep rotating duties imo.

Petan and Spezza sound be traded/waived to make the cap work.

Johnsson Kapanen Hyman Nylander Matthews Tavares Marner Mikheyev Kerfoot Engvall.

Assuming Engvall Mik and Tavares line stays together meaning Engvall is a fixture you only have space for 2 of Timashov Gauthier Spezza and Petan. Bye bye Spezza and Petan imo.

6 points in 15 games.

Been good?

I'd say he's been better than expected. He's a guy that seems to always be in the right place, thinks the game really well, looks dangerous when he is in an offensive position. Perfect guy to play bottom of the lineup minutes.

I'd say he is the surprise find of 2019-20 for the Leafs.

Timashov is waiver eligible. Someone will claim him. Need to keep him up.

Surprised so many want AJ traded. A 20 goal, 40 point rookie for 3.whatever million is a great, team friendly deal. That is someone that is
Very valuable to a team with as many overpaid players as the leafs. Send down tima and gauthier. We need to ice the best roster possible to make the playoffs

It's not the offence that has soured me on AJ, its his complete lack of defensive awareness, he is an absolute mistake generating machine in his own end.

Tima and Goat are AHLer's to me.

We've never really seen AJ play in Keefe system yet, for all we know he is going to be a stud

... that being said he is very much the odd man out and if someone has to be traded I think it should be him (obviously after Ceci but Ceci has negative trade value)

We did see AJ in the AHL with Keefe and he excelled.
other injuries have a way of things working out...will see for Engval.

I agree. With Engvall's play, I hope they seriously consider moving Kap or Johnsson for defense (or perhaps goalie) help, if possible.

Kapanen and Johnsson are good players, but will soon be cap casualties if we have any hope of improving on the defensive side of the ice.

I think you'd be looking at maximum retention on Ceci just to get him into reasonable cap dump territory...

I think he can be the 3rd line centre of the future for this team.
Not that he hasn't earned a higher spot in the lineup but when everyone is healthy I would put him as the 4th line C with Spezza on the right wing for a bit so they can both take faceoffs on their strong sides. Get him some reps against NHL players. See if he can handle it. Kind of like we did with Matthews and Nylander for a while.

Johnsson-Matthews-Nylander
Hyman-Tavares-Marner
Mikheyev-Kerfoot-Kapanen
Moore-Engvall-Spezza
Gauthier-Timashov

Engvall looks really strong. Not great offensively but really strong in the corners and in transition. Amazing skater, pretty decent hands and vision, good shot, great puck protection.

Mikheyev, Engvall, Goat are making our team a lot bigger and a lot harder to play against in the corners. Throw in Korshkov and Marchment to the mix and we could be a massive team.

Gudbranson is worse than Ceci, and he can be traded easily.

This narrative needs to die. It's so far off base

We have lots of Right Wingers.

In the AJ vs. Kap issue ... the right winger goes.

7-1 without Johnsson answers that question for me, although I would have agreed earlier on the season about moving KK

Debatable, but Ceci doesn't have the "toughness" that makes Gudbranson "valuable".

I'm not opposed to trading Ceci, mind you. I just don't want to give up another first to do it, for example.
