Really want to see how Pierre plays at C. If he is capable and producing, he will give Dubas more option at TDL and the offseason.

To me, with Soup(assume he comes back and be as good) and Pierre are making Kerfoot and AJ expandable. As both of them should come in cheaper than Kerfoot and AJ. Then Dubas trade for someone like M Foligno and you will have a lineup of
Hyman/Matthews/Marner
Soup/JT/Willie
Foligno/Pierre/Kap
Moore/Spezza/Goat

“He’s actually had a couple really nice passes in his time up here,” Nylander insisted. “I think that ability of his is underrated.”

There's much about Engvall’s game that might fall into that category, especially since his surprising emergence as one of the Leafs’ most versatile forwards.

Since being recalled from the American Hockey League’s Toronto Marlies to make his NHL debut under former Leafs’ coach Mike Babcock on Nov. 19, Engvall has skated on nearly every line – as a winger and a centre – and become an integral part of the penalty kill, averaging 1:13 shorthanded per game.

The 23-year-old has been a steady producer, with his seven goals and 13 points in 25 games ranking seventh in output among Toronto’s forwards since his arrival.
Perhaps most importantly, Keefe quickly knew he could trust Engvall to not only slide in anywhere, but actually elevate other players, which is why he slotted Engvall with Nylander and Tavares.

“That line was having some real trouble in leaving the offensive zone and getting caught, and a lot of the chances we were giving up were coming from [them],” Keefe said. “We wanted Pierre to really help with that cause, just with how he skates, and then how he works. The fact that he can track and skate and get back the way that he does, and I thought throughout the game [on Tuesday] he was in good spots.”

Can we please not call him Pierre by itself :/ Reminds me of a certain someone.

I don't think he's a NHL C.

I'll admit I wanted him gone, but it looks like he's working on his tunnel vision (never pass) - and his godawful tendency to skate out of prime scoring territory to the perimeter for a weak shot on goal. Drove me nuts.

Good for him.
He is still a kid and he has unreal tools. I don't think you move a 1st rounder with his skills and potential unless you get back a RHD 2D/3D. There are so few guys in league that can skate like Kappy.

He has taken almost no faceoffs and is 38%. For reference Hyman has actually taken twice as many and has had better results. I am not sure they see him in that role but maybe he gets a look next year.

I watch most of the games on my 27" computer screen. I thought all the players were midgets.

you pointed out the reason that you shouldn't trust that sample, it's too small to mean anything, good or bad. He could get over 50% in one good game

Keep in mind his center experience is basically a handful of games with the Marlies, he really doesn't have a body of work learning faceoffs. If he can dedicate an offseason or two to getting good at them, I think he's our best in-house 3C option. I could easily see him being a better but less physical Boyle.

Agreed. His game breaking speed will be useful innthe postseason. But if it is what needs to be sent for a good D then so be it.

Pierre Engvall on his first season as a Maple Leaf

Toronto Maple Leafs left winger Pierre Engvall discusses what the season has been like for him, how long it took him to get comfortable at the NHL level, if there's any pressure to put up more numbers when playing alongside William Nylander and John Tavares, his draft experience, the biggest difference between the NHL and AHL, what he'll be doing during the All-Star break, and what part of his game he had to work on when he made the move to North America.

He gets around like a Centerman though...i'm likin' it!

A ton of things to like about Engvall. His pass to Nylander for the tip in goal was outstanding, threading it thru the dmans skates at speed right on Nylanderst tape. His speed is excellent, he has some hockey sense, great shot, good on the PK. He makes guys like Kapanen, Kerfoot, JOhnsson moveable without any real sting to be felt. Leafs need a D-man.
