Engvall is a smart hockey player. A delayed penalty vs EDM tonight just now and Engvall is at the point and I like where he is passing the puck, its too the danger man without any hesitation. Also an excellent pass to Spezza to set up his goal. Engvall has a lot more to show if given a chance.

Reactions: sittler rules!!!
Not a fan of nicknaming players on things they can't control - such as their appearance.

I am a fan of this kid though. What a draft find. Gotta give props to scouting...assume it's Bergman.

Edit: Props also to development. So nice to finally be able to compliment player development.

Hyman is the trade asset since he's UFA after next season, and the most proven. With Johnsson, Mikhevey, and Engvall I think we've finally got enough LW depth it won't kill us. No this is not a Hyman hate post it just seems the most logical guy to me to move.
I see Hyman making less than Johnsson on his next contract and way more valuable.

They can keep him for next year, but I don't think there's much chance they can resign him because I don't think they can afford that. The logic to trade him being if they have to trade one of their 2-3.5 million range forwards this offseason(to obtain cap space and assets if they get a defenceman) better to trade the 1 who's gone the year after rather than someone else and then lose Hyman and be down 2 guys. Of course if they finagle it so they don't trade anyone then that works too.
They can re-sign him come July 1st. He’s a Toronto boy and bleeds blue and white. He’ll stay here for a fair offer. Won’t be as greedy as Marner, Matthews and Nylander. That is Dubas priority next summer. 5 x $3.2M will get it done.

The thing about Engvall is he's a C but has the skill to play in the top 6. With Mik out he's able to get time with Tavares and Nylander. I'd love him as our 3rd line C but I think he's just too good for it. Still early though and really didn't expect him to make an impact this fast. He's really accelerated through the rankings.
A good problem to have.

He's a rarity. It's not often that a player is called up from the AHL and makes such a statement that there is no chance they're being sent back down. He has taken a spot on this team and ran with it.

Our development system is top notch.
