I don't think he's going anywhere. He will be resigned and should be to a long term contract.

He'll probably get over 4 million in UFA. Like him or not we can't really afford that. With the forwards we have that money is better allocated than using it to push Engvall, and Moore to the 4th line.

No, as much as I love Hyman that's how you end up with Abdelkader and Helm types of deals that cripple your cap.

Use him until you can't afford him anymore then unfortunately you let them go. Hopefully you can develop the next guy by the time that day comes.

Hyman is the trade asset since he's UFA after next season, and the most proven. With Johnsson, Mikhevey, and Engvall I think we've finally got enough LW depth it won't kill us. No this is not a Hyman hate post it just seems the most logical guy to me to move.

I feel the team misses Hyman the most of all those guys if traded. He's the best checker they have, plus improves offense every year, and it looks like the offense will continue.

They can keep him for next year, but I don't think there's much chance they can resign him because I don't think they can afford that. The logic to trade him being if they have to trade one of their 2-3.5 million range forwards this offseason(to obtain cap space and assets if they get a defenceman) better to trade the 1 who's gone the year after rather than someone else and then lose Hyman and be down 2 guys. Of course if they finagle it so they don't trade anyone then that works too.

I have an idea, see if you like it.

DO NOT f***ING TRADE ZACH HYMAN

We need Hyman, and didn't he force his way here because he's a massive Leaf fan?? Also his parents are rich af.

Don't think it'll be very difficult to resign him.

I don’t think he forced his way to to the leafs but his father is a real estate developer in the gta. He also at one point owned close to 100 teams in the gthl which was very controversial. With that being said i think he would be an easy resign with a slight discount somewhere in the 3-4M range. I could see His ufa market value being 4m+

I remember when he first came over I was super excited with what he did. Then his numbers looked mediocre last year. Now he looks like a legit NHL player.

If there is 1 player on this roster that is willing to take a discount to play for the Leafs, it is Hyman. I highly doubt he walks in FA

I’d go with morgs dermott or Hyman but ya I agree.

Engvall again making aj trade bait Imo

Well, Hyman will be what 29 when he comes up for renewal? How long can he play his style into the 30's?

But to get back on topic, Engvall.

He has to re-sign in the summer, he'll be 24, wonder if he'd do a reasonable 3 year deal?

There's no doubt Engvall has been a useful player during his time up, but let's pump the brakes a bit here before we start trading more established players to make a spot for him.

Seems like many are forgetting that Johnsson scored 20 goals in his rookie year and the year before that he was Calder Cup MVP under Keefe. Maybe let's see what he does under Keefe at this level before deeming him 'expendable'. Trading one of their young guys on reasonable contracts for pennies on the dollar has the potential to look real bad in a few years as opposed to sending any/all of of Timoshov/Gautier/Spezza down, who cares if they get claimed.

all about cap management.

they have been playing well without Johnson and have needs elsewhere.

no one is giving anyone away.

Engvall and Mikheyev hopefully go the route of Hyman and Brown with a 3yr contract in the low 2's. 3yr x 2.25mil per for both. 4.5 mil for both Mikheyev and Engvall. Immediately covered by letting Ceci and his 4.5mil walk in the off-season if we dont move him before that. Also as mentioned above, these two players have made Johnsson and his 3.4mil very expendable

Engvall at C and Kerfoot at LW makes more sense to me. If anything Kerfoot had made Johnsson expendable in terms of production and contract.
