It would be interesting to see some kind of plot showing the success of the senators throughout their existence overlaid against the arrival and departure of Murray. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the franchise has fallen off of a cliff following Murray’s death. I never realized how critical he was at running the asylum.

I would have to disagree with this. Yes some of the trades were money motivated but dorion could still have gotten better returns/made better trades. It's on him to get a good return not the owner.

It's tough to tell if he's a terrible GM, or just has by far the most terrible GM job in the league. It definitely seems Melnyk is looking over his shoulder at all times, and involved (too much) in every decision. Whether he's a good GM or not, he's clearly in a position where it's impossible to look good.

One of the worst GM’s of all time

To repost what I've stated about Dorion before:

-Traded away Zibanejad and a 2nd for Brassard
-Traded away a top 4 pick in 2019
-Cost the Sens another 1st from the Dadonov NTC
-Traded Stone and Duchene for bad returns
-Traded young Gustavsson for an old Cam Talbot
-Wasted draft picks on Hamonic, Stepan and Matt Murray
-Traded high 1sts for Debrincat and Chychrun, only for those two to not stay long term
-drafted Jarventie over Peterka
-a bunch of bad first round picks(Bowers, Boucher, Thomson, Bernard-Docker)

The ONLY GM I would consider worse than him is Mike Milbury, and that's only because Dorion's drafting was a mixed-bag as opposed to being completely awful like Milbury's.
