Post-Game Talk: Physical Win

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. The admin team will continue to work on existing issues, templates and upgrade all necessary available addons to minimize impact of this new version. Click Here for Updates
Happy for Petr in this one. He was excellent IMO. This was the goalie we thought we were getting when he signed. That was the most calm I've seen him all year in the blue paint. Challenged the shooter when necessary, and stayed close to his line when he didn't need to be aggressive. All n all he was just making great reads all night. Hopefully he can keep it going.

Could you imagine if Petr and Jack return to form? If we are doing this well with them performing as poorly as they have been, we could be really dangerous with them being good. Remember when EDM lost something like 12 games straight because they couldn't get a save??? kinda shows just how good our team is, because we went almost 2 months without getting a save and still somehow managed to play above .500 hockey.

New additions played well. Gio clearly still has game left. Felt entirely confident when he was on the ice. He and Timmy looked great IMO. You could see some early nerves with Gio, but as the game went on you could see him playing a lot more patient and composed. Thing I noticed right away was his compete in front of the net. He was always engaged in a battle even when the puck was no where near the net. So often we fail to clear the house and it really all stems from not being engaged. It was nice to see someone other than Lybushkin put in work away from the puck to clear the net front.

Blackwell is such a great add. I think he lead the team in hits right? 5"9 and throwing it around. Love it. Seemed like the puck was following him at times as well. I think that may have been the best Simmonds and Spezza have looked in a very long time. Wonder if there was a Blackwell effect.

And of course Micky and Pierre. Great individual efforts. Micky is so damn good. If this guy had any f***ing hands he'd be a pt/game player. He is first to every puck and his speed and size are a very rare combo. I really really hope he comes back next year. He looks like he is having more fun this year, so hopefully he resigns

Dear hockey gods let us face the disgraceful Boston Bruins in the playoffs so we can wipe their smug little team out of the playoffs once and for all... Im ready

2 points bagged .. well done .. pretty quiet game .. Devils are a lot faster then I realized .. I knew Mikey was one of fastest in league but did not realize they have quite a few speedsters .. bodes well for Devils in future .. need some defense and a little more skill too

I’m so curious to see if our newfound physical game holds.

Since March 1st (10 games) we’ve thrown the 4th most hits per game in the NHL at 25.90 per game. The past 2 weeks (6 games) that per game number jumped to 32.13. Second only to Nashville during that same period at 32.50

Pre March this season that number was just 18.09 per game. 3rd last in the league.

We have quietly become one of the most physical teams in the league this month

It’s interesting too when you consider Giordano and Blackwell both come in for only 1 game of those stretches and both guys are known to throw some hits! Like 7 between them last night.

They’re the number 1 “fast break” team in the league creating a ton of odd man rushes every game. Lots of talent up front, that D is tough to watch tho.

The Leafs record over that time is 5-4-1, and 3-2-1 respectively.

Now the goaltending has been atrocious, but it's still interesting to note.....

We are highly unlikely to face them, although it would be great to have a shot at redemption.
Why are we highly unlikely to face them? The Bruins, Bolts and Leafs are all right there together in the standings. The Leafs could very easily face the Bruins in Round 1. Tampa could easily finish 4th in the division.

A Bruins win over Tampa tonight, in Boston, makes that even more possible.

It's funny - Drake and Bieber have brought hundreds of millions of dollars (at least) into our city, donated millions more to charity, are job creators, etc. Have done nothing negative (well, Biebs was a brat as a teen, but who wasn't), and yet we have couch potatos who contribute nothing to society spilling their venom towards them for no conceivable reason.

I just realised I have never heard a Drake song. Going to rectify this now.

I think Tampa Bay will distance themselves from the Bruins over the last 20 games of the season and make a run at Florida for the division title.

Unfortunately, he's going to be looking for a security contract, so expect something like 5 years+ at 4 to 5 million or so. And he'll have no good reason NOT to play hard ball with the Leafs because now they have a reputation for overpaying contracts. He likely won't get that much, but that's not the point. He CAN play that card with the Leafs, and if he doesn't get that much, he'll still get something quite nice elsewhere, so there is no reason to start with a lowball offer.
Of course, his agent might be weak and start with a low offer, but I highly doubt it.
