My only other post in this thread was this one...

which I made shortly after this thread started. I haven't rubbed anything in Oilers fans face because quite frankly I don't care. I don't see them as the guys we offersheeted anymore, I see them as Blues players. This thread was nothing more than bait for Oilers fans and man did you all bite. I know you all think its fun to dunk on Broberg after a rough game against your team (really his first rough game as a blue). Truth is all you're really doing is proving that the offersheets are still living rent free in your heads.

That's why I will once again ask a mod to lock this flame fest of thread.
I don’t think I singled any one poster out …

Think i’d rather have 1 cup in the last 5 years than 5 cups that were all 30-40 years ago
For sure. But you didn’t win it. It’s not your accomplishment.

Bickering aside, I think the Oilers did try to trade Broberg but there was no one willing to pay the price. Stauffer hinted that he wouldn't even fetch Edmonton a late 2nd at last years deadline.
Nobody willing to pay their ask.

If all Edmonton asked was a 2nd I have no doubt a team would've happily ponied up. He was obviously on the Blues radar for awhile considering they paid a 2nd + 3rd + overpaid Broberg.

You quoted my post directly with your response but lets just agree that wasn't your intent. The rest of my post is valid, just stop taking the bait from those who are. It's embarrassing that certain post (some blues fans some not) bother to taunt Oilers every time Broberg does something good. However it is equally embarrassing when Oilers fans come in here and try to dunk on him. Like I said it just reveals that you haven't moved on. It's like that person that won't stop shit talking about their ex 4 months after their relationship ends.

Why? They are all just memories and experiences. If Your favourite team won cups in the past but you weren't born yet, your position is completely understandable. But I am old enough to have experienced those 5 cup wins and another 3 years of cup final losses. So that is 8 years to the finals in 40 years or 1 in 5. Of course everyone wants to win every year. But just because your team won two years ago doesn't mean your memory disappears and you lose the enjoyment you had out of it. Your entitled to your opinion but I'd rather "my favourite team" win as many as they can in my lifetime.

"The 81 games you saw mean nothing but the 16 games he's played for us mean EVERYTHING!!!111!!!!"

Cool cool. If Broberg is your #1 defenseman, I don't think the Oilers will have to worry about them for a long while.
Not what I said, and typically you need to give a defenseman more than 100 games to fully evaluate them anyways, and if the player in question is improving during that time, that’s a good sign. He was already showing good things in the playoffs last season too.

Did you already forget what it is like to have young players? You better hope your team wins the Cup this season because with no cap space and no young talent in the system, nobody is going to be worrying about the Oilers for quite a while either.

Not a blues fan so no it doesn’t really impact my sleep one way or another. Just pointing out how hollow the cup counting argument is when all those cups have been collecting dust for almost 35 years at this point
In other breaking news, the Canadian teams have piss poor management.

But other than Panther fans nobody can celebrate since those Cups are all ancient history.

I'm sorry, but I'm calling b.s. if Stauffer suggested that. First off, the Oilers likely weren't trying to move him for a pick at the deadline. If they wanted to move him, it would have been for help for the cup run. At least that's the logical train of thought. The other part, is that there were tons of rumours about Buchnevich to the Oilers. The teams couldn't come to terms obviously, but usually when rumours are out there like that in media land, some conversations have been had. It was rumoured at the time that the Blues were looking for cheaper, younger players. Buchnevich for Broberg and/or Holloway and possibly other futures was likely discussed at some point.

Well that all depends on your age and how important hockey is/was to you I expect. I remember 3 of those 5 cup wins, 2 of them clearly, and they were among the best moments of my childhood. I wouldn't trade them for a single cup win. I might not even trade that dynasty for experiencing a new one now, it would be messing with core developmental moments in my life.

Oilers turnstyled the Blues golden boy yesterday. Broberg was getting clowned all game. Satisfying to watch. Enjoy Broberg. He is good and still young. However against us, a nobody. fxxx the Blues. Tables will turn one day and an offer sheet will come the other way.

When did the Oilers win the Cup last?

2 goals from the Cup a few months ago and all our success is 40 years ago. 1 cup in a lifetime is also better than 5 cups because that 1 cup is more recent. This is some amazing math. Blues have been in the NHL longer than the Oilers too! I actually like the Blues but these arguments are funny. Their consistency of being good is definitely better than the Oilers. Their winning playoff games isn't even close. .

1 cup in 57 years vs 5 cups in 45 years should be the end of that chat.

4 Stanley Cup finals in 57 years (and you gotta go to 1970 or earlier for those, Oilers weren't even in the NHL when St. Louis made 3 of 4) vs 8 Stanley cup finals Even with the 12 year head start.

Our recent success is higher. Our overall success is higher. Our franchise history is higher. Winning a cup in 2019 doesn't change history. Great cup run though and you have a lot of Czechs in the pipe so I am slowly cheering for St. Louis. I also think they will be damn good soon as they picked up another guy I liked (and wanted on my Oil) yesterday. Great GM and direction IMO.

An equivalent to this argument would be saying the Czechs are better than Canada because we won the World Championships in spring and eliminated them from the Worlds Jr's last Xmas. It's cherry picking!

It's not going the best right now. Minutes are great but that injury seems to be affecting him. This was what I saw... a brilliant young dman who was constantly derailed with injuries. I really like Bro and hope he turns the offence around. I am cheering for him because it is a cautionary tale of treating high end D prospects like shit and them wanting out becuase they don't enjoy playing 8 minutes a night and told 'off the glass'.

2 points in 5 games, averaging over 22 minutes a game and being an even player in those 5 games is pretty damn good on a non-playoff team basing on stats alone. No one said he was Cale makar.

Now do the last 4 games... 0 assists, 0 goals, 0 points, minus 1 and 5 shots. I agree the minutes are nice. I am a fan. Those most recent 4 games are below his season. He didn't go 4 points without a game preinjury. He didn't go more than 2 games before this. Maybe not Makar but probably a top pairing Dman for awhile.. a long ass while.

You're talking right now though, and no one is saying he's a top pairing right now. Even 0 points, -1 ans over a shot pg is not bad for what is essentially a rookie defenseman.

Bottom line is the blues are very happy with how both players have played regardless of what any bitter, or even rational, oiler fan has to say about it.

Last 2 games.. no shots, no assists, no goals... it's all zeroes.

Definitely not a bitter fan. Said nothing but nice things about the kids but his 'run' pre injury and post injury are different. Hopefully it evens out.

I've also posted this when he was killing it. Don't worry, I'll post more as the season goes on 1 way or the other. Hope you caught that I'm hoping he succeeds and does well.

Sorry, I don't want you to think I was talking about you. I wasn't. You have been respectful throughout this thread. I was making that comment against other oiler fans.

2 games with all 0s with a rookie defenseman isn't a bad though.
