I thought there was a chance Hoffman was coming back.
I think even if he comes back it's a bullpen loss since he wants to start. If the Phillies don't bring him back to start he'll probably find another team willing to structure a contract that way.

Teel is a NJ kid*. Don’t think he’s a better prospect than Miller because catchers are really risky.

Montgomery was a top pick from the most recent draft. He would have gone higher if he didn’t snap his ankle before the CWS. Phillies comparable is probably Caba but he’s further from the big leagues.

Don’t know the others but Boston might have the best system in baseball so they could beat any offer if Chicago wanted prospects only.

*His family owns a large hitting facility in North Jersey. We were frequent visitors when I played.

That's a bit rich for a #2/#3 who'll be 30 to start an 8 year contract.
Has maintained his FB velocity at 94 from 26-29, got a good mix of pitches, 2 seamer, 4 seamer, curve, slider, change.
He's a solid pitcher, but not sure they'll be happy with the 4 out years on this deal.

DD shouldn't be doing too much, QO would cost them picks and a $1 million off their international signing allowance.
Trades would be "wack a mole," create one hole to fix another.

Best bet is patience, and bargain hunt once the big spenders are finished.
And look for smart trades like last summer, where all he lost was a "B" prospect in Bergolla.

They need to be patient, Miller, Crawford, Ricones, Caba, Tait are on their way, Painter, some other young pitchers. Need to work in some young players, clear out some cap (Schwarber, Castellanos, Walker, extension at lower rate for JT) and make a big move in 2026 or 2027.

Yep, just sit around and watch everyone get better while letting the team become stale. They don't have what it takes to win, doing nothing isn't going to fix that. Sounds a lot like another local sports team.

Hopefully the Phillies are in on Kyle Tucker. If they miss on him, we are looking at no improvements and possibly missing the playoffs next season.
