I know that trading within the conference is kind of tough, but I was trying to think of something that both teams could find palatable . . .

I'm assuming for this that the Isles draft 10th-11th and Phily 5th

Isles send

Dobson (Phily gets to negotiate/sign first)
11th-12th pick
Rights to Kamil Bednarik

for

Brink
The #5 pick
Calgary's and Columbus' 2nd Rd picks

Reasoning:

The Isles would love to jump up (my personal favorite is Frondell)

Phily gets more balance in their defense core, which is more LD, with the best player in the trade.

Isles get a few more picks as they are looking to rebuild the organization

Brink would be a nice 3rd line winger with some upside

In the hypothetical alternate world where the Flyers received a credible #1C prospect for Gauthier instead of Drysdale and the Anaheim 2nd this year, we might be in a position to consider something like this, but the organizational black hole at C is utterly crushing us, and this pick is by far our best hope at resolving the issue and finding Michkov's pivot for the next decade plus (it's highly unlikely to be Luchanko, he's at best our #2C long term.)

If the return for our #1 doesn't provide a better resolution for that issue than just staying put and taking whoever's there out of Hagens, Frondell, and Desnoyers (assuming Misa's gone), then we shouldn't be considering moving off the pick.

Calgary and Columbus 2nd along with Edmonton's first for eleven but that's about the only thing I see interesting here. Philly is locked in on drafting a c with the first pick

Too much center depth issues for them to make this trade. Especially in the top 6. I think they would try and land a C here in the draft, even if that C later is transitioned to W. I think they still take that chance.

Maybe I have the right idea but the wrong team. Maybe this works better with Nashville and some reconfiguring.

I wouldn’t be opposed to trading down, but that Edmonton pick is too far down. In fact I would be fine moving down a couple of times to load up on a bunch of picks.

I'm not sure any team in the top 5 would be better served by getting an extended Dobson instead of whoever they'd draft in their spots. Right now it's either bottomed out rebuilding teams (Chicago, SJ) or teams that could probably bottom out more to potentially get an elite young talent (Nashville, Philly, Boston).

My view of a Dobson trade would be for a skilled forward of similar age who also might be plateauing. Not sure who would fit.

I don’t understand why some of my fellow isles fans hate Dobson so much and want to trade him so often.
Nobody hates him. He's due for a large extension, his play over the last season and a half hasn't exactly warranted that extension, and is the only RD without any trade protection. We are extremely limited in our ability to make upgrades up front so he's an obvious choice to dangle in trades.

Just to put things in perspective.

If the offered d-man would be Cale Makar the Flyers would still hold on to the pick to draft a C. This is how much they need that potential 1C.
