Has any NHL team ever successfully proven a material breach? It seems like they always end up settling or losing in the end and have to pay the player and potentially take a cap penalty.

Guessing it might be more to do with his injury status, doing/not doing something about it, not reporting to the AHL, something along those lines, as opposed to a vice-related issue.

I don’t think so. I believe Kuznetsov is completely off the Caps’ books now. A buyout would be different, though (like OEL).

That is going to be an intriguing case that could set a precedent the NHLPA will certainly want to avoid.
I can't help but think the league penalty to the Flyers, were they to submit insufficient evidence/cause for termination, would turn out to be less severe than the Ottawa/Dadonov mistake, because the NHL gonna NHL.

They took on his contract as a cap dump to get a 1st round pick from Colorado for Sean Walker. Now they've been able to get out of the contract altogether. I'd say they nailed this one, and I am usually very critical of everything they do as a tortured lifelong fan.

He played 63/63 games for Colorado then claimed he was injured right after the trade to avoid going to the AHL and being bought out after the season. Always seemed fake.
