Fortitude and resilience make for a winning combination, and the Lehigh Valley Phantoms have demonstrated both attributes in the last few months to clinch a playoff spot for the first time since the 2017-018 season when they made it all the way to the Eastern Conference finals.

Where last season’s team found difficulties trying to pull out close games and wins in overtime and shootout, this season’s rendition of the Phantoms has thrived.

They came from behind in the third period in four of the last seven games to clinch the playoff spot, but have been playing at a playoff intensity since February, going 17-10-1 in their last 28 games, 11-4-0 in their last 15.

More impressively, the Phantoms are 20-6-6 in games decided by one goal. The Phantoms have won 15 games when tied or trailing in the third period (nine when trailing), are 6-3 in overtime and 4-3 in shootout.

No way I'd take Attard over Ristolainen right now.

Risto has improved a ton. He's actually been pretty good for more than half of the season, after a bad start.

They said tonight he leads all Flyers' D in points since January 16 with 18 points. Also leads in +- during the same span.

It was a 6th rd pick, what did you expect?
Hextall would have taken him in the 4th rd, Holmgren in the 3rd rd.
:dunno::dunno:

Basic stay at home big physical RHD whose upside is a 3rd pair guy you pair with a puck moving smurf like Ghost. Probably have a long AHL career.

It's also an 8-game, 148-minute sample size.

With the way the AHL scoreboard is shaking out today, it's looking like the Phantoms will play Charlotte in the qualifying round. Please beat them for the love of god. Despite being a higher seed, Hershey will start on the road if they draw Charlotte in round 2 due to geographical distance and they play horribly there.

Avon was voted "best skater" in OHL East in coaches poll.
Needs to fill out that frame, future is probably 4th line forechecker with some modicum of skill, late birthday (July) who missed a year. 6'0 174 when signed.

Didn't score much more this season, but went from -14 to +21, a lot of that was better play by the starting goalie, but how much is the goalie and how much was better team defense?

Having a much better PO than last season, but is unlikely to be an offensive force.

Meanwhile, Gendron remains red hot in the Q playoffs: 7g 11-2 13 +7.

There isn't much out there on Furry, but found this on a Canuck's website previewing college FAs:

Coming off a 2021-22 season where he finished third in the nation for assists with 31, Brendan Furry returned to Minnesota State Mankato as the captain and should see interest from NHL teams this spring.
He’s a big and strong centre who plays a tough two-way game and has been a rock for Minnesota State in his time with the Mavericks. Furry has the work rate with the combination of skills to potentially be a bottom-six player in the NHL one day. It’s likely that Furry is already at a level where he would be an impact player in an AHL lineup. He should gain a lot of interest this spring, even as he is going through a down season when it comes to offensive production.

That's incredibly stupid.
The whole round is stupid. Coachella Valley finished second in the league with 103 points but has to play a three game play in series against a team with 34 less points that finished under .500 (because SEVEN out of ten teams in that division "make the playoffs" and only the top seed gets a bye).
